Around here only the small, bad boy independent shops do it. And for a cost of around $350.
This. If you get a tech who knows what the fuck they're doing they'll tune the TV pretty well. Geek Squad is a joke, their home theater department is pretty decent.

Another scam type of thing they do is show a lower price on the internet, but at the store, the same product will be higher. I've seen this several times. All you have to do is tell them it was cheaper online and they will give it to you for that price, but why should you have to ask?

Like Josh said, I only go there when I need something NOW and can't wait for it to get here in the mail.

During some of the sales they can compete with on-line suppliers, especially on the big ticket items. Their margins are nothing on those items. They do get you on the accessories but its a convenience fee because you cant easily go get all of that random shit in one place. Are people in here bitching about a 65 cent snickers from a vending machine when they sell for 1/3rd that at Sams?

As for the corrale: just move the rope, its what I do. Its not like they are going to refuse your money.

Last time I went there was to get some laptop combo with printer, mouse and some other crap. I didnt want the add ons but I figured I could sell it on Craigs cause the laptop itself was nice. Turns out the "combo" deal was out of stock even though I see all the pieces around the store, they told me I can buy the laptop for the package price, it just wouldn't come with all the package accessories, just the laptop.

There's just no economic justification unless you're spending $2k on an uber machine, but the average ma & pa (who are buying a $500 laptop, maybe) get suckered by pushy sales people and scary stories.

How many of those same people pay EB Games the extra $20 or whatever for disk scratch protection? what a joke!
Yeah you are right. If you buy a $500 laptop then it's probably not worth it to spend $250 on a warranty. The prices for a warranty depend on the price range of the laptop. $250 IIRC is from $599-$1199, I could be wrong though, I don't really work sales.

I keep any computer I have for about 3 years give or take. If one were to spend $250 on a warranty, then deduct the cost of a battery that I will kill in under 2 years, there's not much left. Say a battery is $100 (A real one not a ebay chinese one), you still have $150 invested. Just looking at the cost of a laptop HDD, which is completely reasonable to blow in under 3 years, you can knock a big chunk out of that $150. What remains would be a good deal for accidental damage.

Because the printer, software, and other things come off with promo codes/coupon codes/instant savings that are shaven off when you buy the computer with it. So you do get a "combo deal"/"bundle" for a cheaper price than buying it separately when you get it altogether. It might also be in rebates that makes it cheaper. Where I work, Staples, we don't offer "bundles." We say "This HP computer is 529.99 with a $30 manufactorer rebate. You can get a printer free after a rebate (it varies) if you buy a computer, but you are still paying for it plus tax in store." Same with Norton and other shit, we take money off the software when you buy it with a computer.
