And now I'm about to start the book that was written by his Dad, about what it was like to be on the other side of his son's addiction:

If you're wondering, my Mom is the site director at an Oregon rehab center, and addiction has been a big part of my family's life for a long time, so it's something I can relate to, being one of the family members who didn't do any drugs, but had to watch what they did to us.
I might look those up, thanks for sharing. Addictions, and other mental health issues can be so devastating to somebody's life and i've seen some things first hand myself, too. I remember watching this Intervention episode about this 20 something kid who was addicted to OxyCotin... very sad indeed. If you ask me, mental health treatments, including addiction, need more attention.

Some books i'm working on are:
    Naked by David Sedarris
Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
The Reality Dysfunction by Peter Hamilton

I have an ambitious dream to write a book myself! And a screenplay, and a video game script.

So that's what the song called suicide kings from machines of loving grace refers to when they mention slaughterhouse 5. Thanks for mentioning it.

On topic seems like an interesting book

Inside The Wire by Erik Saar. It's an account about Guantanamo from a guy who was there for 6 months working as Military Intelligence. As far as how accurate any of the information is, I have no idea, but 60 pages in and it seems like an alright read. Next on the list is The Guns of August. I enjoy reading military, political/ non-fiction in general but once in a while will pick up one of the 20-something Stephen King books I have sitting on my shelf.

My brother finished this one about a year ago. Really enjoyed it.

"The Year of of Living Biblically" by A.J. Jacobs. He's an agnostic who spends a year following the Bible as literally as possible. I'm less than 1/4 into it, but had a pretty good amount of lulz so far.

And yes, "The Road" is the most depressing book I've ever read. Haven't seen the movie yet. I polished off "No Country for Old Men" in a day, but I probably would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't seen the movie first.

How the Mind Works by Stephen Pinker. Good cog psych stuff.

Also I need to reread Dune.

Almost done with Plum Island by Nelson Demille. Already finished Lions' Game and Wildfire. Next is Night Fall, then I wait for the next 'John Corey' book by Demille. Have Stephen King's Duma Key sitting on a shelf too, or possible Pillars of the Earth may ne next.

"I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell" was actually laugh out loud funny - especially the McGriddles part. If you've read it, you know what I mean.

"Ender's Game" was great. If you like Orson Scott Card, check out "Lost Boys". Creepy.
