The Headphone Thread

^I'm actually interested in some custom fit IEM for playing the drums. Even my Sennheisers don't do as great a job sealing off sound as I'd like.

However, I'm not sure I can stomach $400-500 for the IEMs + having an audiologist make the mold.

So i'm looking to get some decent earbuds (i have Audio Technica ATH-M50s as my full size headphones) and would like something with solid bass, but still with a detailed and clean sound. I'm not a bass head, but I can't stand not being able to hear the lower frequencies on songs when i know they are there.

Right now, I'm looking at either the Hippo VB, Panasonic RP-HJE900, and Audio Technica ATH-CKS70. I'm trying to stay under $100.

A lot of my research thus far has come from head-fi.org and THIS THREAD in particular.

Any recommendations?

Do you want earbuds or IEMs? They are two different things. Most IEMs will have great bass extension as they form a seal with your ear. Most are also very clear. Honestly you'd be hard pressed to find an IEM that didn't fit those criteria.

I haven't had any true earbuds besides what came with ipods/iphones, but in terms of IEMs I've been through some Sennheiser CX300s, bunch of Sony MDR-EX71s and now I'm on a pair of $20 Skull Candies (was poor) and a set of Klipsch Image S2 (or S-somethings, they were like $50 at Best Buy and I had a $50 gift card). Honestly of all of them the cheapest (Skull Candy) had the most bass but they've all extended very deep, and the more expensive ones were clearer and more pleasing to listen to. I'd get any of them again without hesitation, but they were all in the $50 range.

My high-dollar setup has been the Sennheiser HD600's for years now, and will likely remain so for some time to come. My cheapo cans are the HD201, which are definitely the best sub-$100 cans i've heard.

the in-the-box headphones that come with SE Walkman phones are my best friends, they take a hell of a lot of abuse and still sound great and look great, i had a pair of sony's that didnt last half as long as these

HD280's are FANTASTIC headphones. Take tons of abuse. I gave my worn out ones away and regret it. They are as durable as the Sony MDR-V700

Just ordered a set of Sennheiser HD 280 Pro's for when I'm trying to jam out on the drums.

They sound great and have good isolation.

Just picked up a great set of headphones. AblePlanet. They sound fantastic and were 50 dollars cheaper than the Bose equivilant. I think they sound better too.

Just got 'em. They're not mind blowing, but they're great :D I love 'em.

Now time to listen to study music and get work DONE :D

As headphones, i have been using these for four years: Sony mdr-v150



They have been the best headphones i have heard for their price range and upwards.

But for music, the best combo for me is this

Otherwise i am not a big fan of headphones, i feel like there is something missing
