I hate dells, I have an acer laptop I payed $400 for over 2 and a half years ago. Started to slow down a lot so I thew in a $60 ram upgrade and I still couldn't be happier with it. But all depends on what your doing, I don't do anything but surf the web listen to music and stream porn.

I just got an HP pavillion, that I am on right now, and I love it. The screen is 13.3", but i love having the HDMI output for watching movies on my tv via internet, thumb drive etc.

I like the studio 15 a lot, and I really want one, but the reviews I've read all say that shit breaks left and right. :(

r3v, pr0n, something to keep my photo's on, etc. i just want a decent laptop thats durable enough for everyday typical use. i dont want anything that over heats all the time, or when you look at it wrong it breaks, or is suppperrr laggy and user un-friendly.

For that money you might be better off sticking with a netbook of some sort.

The problem with laptops is it gets really expensive to get desktop functionality/usability in a laptop. For that money you are going to get one that is power hungry and runs hot. Tts also going ot be all plastic, not durable.

Just got 1 of these in at my work so I haven't had a chance to really check it out but we will be ordering a lot more pretty soon. We have had amazing results with Acer the past 2 years and the price is fantastic for what you get. Dell is fine but while everyone else's prices have dropped recently, Dell hasn't. Before mostly buying Acer, we bought a ton of Dell and comparably had way more issues.

The only thing I do not like about this laptop is the Athlon processor. I would always go Intel if possible but everything else was so good on it for the money, I made a gamble and selected it. The little bit I have messed with it I don't think the decision will be regretted.

I have always been a PC elitist but I think the new Macbook Pro is calling my name. 2.26 Core 2 Duo and 7 hours of battery life for $1k FTW (not to mention ,yes, the aluminum unibody case).

You're not going to find any good 17" for less than $650. It's hard enough finding a good core2duo for under that.

My mother needed to get a new laptop for her job, I ended up ordering this:

                              http://www.dell.com/content/products...=04&l=en&s=bsd

I got the package one for $569

Acer, Gateway, and E-Machine are all the same compnay, and they are complete worthless garbage.

                              Edit:

Also I would never buy an AMD laptop unless my life depended on it. They don't hold a candle to anything intel. UNLESS you maybe spend like $3k on a laptop, it might be better then.

                              Edit2:

                              I take the $650 back,

Also check out the dell outlet center, they have some pretty decent deals.
