I've been playing for many years but am now getting pretty serious. Just curious to see how many players are out there and what level of play they're at...

Online poker sucks. Basically I play every wednesday, friday and saturday night. Wednesday is typically a $50 buy in cash game. Fridays vary - this weekend I won a 40 person $60 buy in tournament. Then I lost most of my profit at a $1-$2 cash game on saturday. Still a little up on the weekend but nothing like I was saturday morning."We praise or find fault, depending on which of the two provides more opportunity for our powers of judgement to shine."

Best thing is to just keep it "fun".
Ive been playing a pretty long time. I played at Foxwoods at least once a week 5 or so years back. Won pretty big and lost pretty bad. Now I literally live 5 minutes from 10 different casino's and I try to stay clear. Not sure what you consider serious, I knew alot of people over the years who make a living gambling, and did alright for themselves. That said, some of the most dishonest, crooked, unstable people Ive ever known. Go ahead and start gambling sports, see how nasty things really get.-Jay

I tried my hand at it for a few months like 4-5 years ago. Casino was ok, but mostly cash games, ie, boring.
Online was a hit or miss. One month i'd be up 3-4k, and the next month i was down 3-4k. I had to give it all up. Was working full time, school full time, so coming home and playing online for 5+ hours everynight started to take its toll.
Last i played was a $100 buyin tourney in vegas. Took 2nd. Believe it or not, if you dont keep playing, you do get rusty.

I used to play online and casino Hold'em back in undergrad, my buddy and I basically paid our way through college with it. I normally sat at 15-30 blinds when I was playing my best but I got in over my head and tried playing 25-50 games, lost everything I made and quit playing (think Rounders except I wasn't in some basement playing John Malkovich with three stacks of high society, lol). I miss it though, played in 3 WSOP qualifiers, made 1 event. My buddy has played in 5 Main events, made the money twice. Now he runs a tutoring company and makes tons of money so he doesn't play anymore. Every so often when we're back in Houston we get a friendly game going. When I went to Vegas in October and December I just stuck to Blackjack and Craps, stayed away from the poker table, but those $100 buy-in tourneys were really tempting.

poker was my life for a couple years, mostly online but at least 2 days a week live. It was mostly while working but I did get laid off and played poker "for a living" for about 3-4 months. I had something like 14 straight losing days and I took what little was left of my bankroll and it's been just for fun since then. I never played too big, I've always been extra cautious with my bankroll and never really took big shots unless splitting it with a friend who's play I trusted. Usually I 6 tabled 1-2nl or 22/33 turbo sngs. I really enjoyed the poker culture and learning and talking to people about it, analysing stats and stuff like that but it got to the point that winning no longer made me happy and losing depressed/angered me so I had to quit. I haven't played a hand of poker since I went to AC about 2 months ago and I don't miss it or even think about it until I happen to be near a casino and I have extra scratch and free time...life without poker is less interesting but also less nerve racking

also if by some chance you don't know about it twoplustwo is the place to learn, and watch out for home games unless they really are home games with just friends who know each other and no strangers ever present, cuz when they get robbed you don't wanna be there. I've been lucky enough to never have a gun to my head over $300 I'd be happy to fork over but lots of friends haven't been so lucky.
