Get what ever is nice and around / under $4500. I wouldnt want to get a loan, thats pretty much like a car payment, and those suck. If it were me, $3000 on a 318/325i/is thats in decent condition. then the $1500 on maintenance or mods.

Keep the Gremlin AMC powered ;).... Alot of big blocks would get their asses handed to them :p

      Edit: i voted for the 91 318iS

see the problem with my e28 is i jumped into it without really researching it and have already put almost 1000 dollars into it than the price i paid for it its in alot nicer shape then when i bought it but im filling the tank twice a week and i just miss my e30 R.I.P.
i love my 535i but need/want something smaller

this honestly doesnt have anything to do with the poll but i was leaning most towards the '91 318is anyways if anyone reading this has one what do you think of it i have always heard the are awesome but not from an actual owner???

Around town, the 318is is a blast. PIA on the hwy. e36 M3 is okay, but build quality is not as good as the e30 line, that's why mine is for sale. Buy mine or get the 318is and have some fun.

                $8500.

Has a heavy duty clutch, BBK, 1pc. driveshaft, on its second motor, etc. So, despite the mileage it's actually in great mechanical shape. I just noticed you're in NM though. So shipping would be a PITA.

I have a 1991 318is, and I love it. Its not that bad on the highway either. as a matter of fact, I live in Loveland, an hour north of Denver, CO, and I drove my 318is to Albuquerque and back a month or so ago with no problems, I maintained a speed of 75 mph or so, and got about 29-30 mpg. If i was going 60 i would have gotten like 35 mpg. btw my car gets 29-30 mpg city driving too, its just that my tires are a bit smaller overall diameter than stock, so the gearing is not highway friendly, and of course my car is as aerodynamic as a moving van, but the 318is is a great car.

It lacks power sometimes, but you can drive all the way up to red-line in every gear and its a blast. I also have H&R Race springs and Billy sport shocks and 15x7 Kosei K1 wheels and it handles like a dream especially with the 50/50 weight distribution.

The 318is is certainly the cheapest to maintain and the most reliable of the poll options. Still, the e36 M3 gets my vote because it has better all-around performance, and it looks sexier.
