Obama State of the Union

My favorite funny parts of the SOTU:
1. Obama asked for bipartisanship. I thought it was hilarious for him to ask for it. He voted 95% liberal during his short time as a senator. Other 5%? Present and absent. He has never voted against his party line.
2. He asked for government to stop frivolous spending, while having the biggest executive office in history of the US and pushes a trillion dollar healthcare bill.
3. Transparency? Applies to everyone but himself... Only times he's transparent it seems, is when he travels to Copenhagen. Everyone watches and no one sees him.
4. SOTU is supposed to be formal address. I didn't expect him to go Bush and teleprompter and screw up the whole thing, but at least take it seriously. Come on, man. There's place for smooth and there's place for serious conversation. Luckily, this time he wasn't heckled with "you lie", but entire country saw generals, supreme justices, and 40% of your congress shake their heads on a number of occasions. Get it together.
"Do as I say and not as I do" come to mind.
I still have a lot of hope. Clinton had the same rough patch with congress early in his presidency and a failed health reform. He turned it around and I think Obama can too having both Clintons and Biden on his team.Comment

Funny how many people who think Palin is stupid also think that Obama is smart.

If you think Obama writes his own speeches, you are a fool. That practice ended with Lincoln. He'll set the tone, but he has a whole staff of people who writes for him. That's one of the reasons his delivery was unpolished. I bet they were making changes right up to the last minute based on the feedback they were getting from the intentionally leaked content of the speech.1987 E30 325is

I voted for McCain and I think she is an idiot. Being said I dont think anyone writes/thinks for themselves. You think Obama even knows what an extemporaneous speech is? Everyone has seen the video of him attempting to give a full 15 without a teleprompter. It was brutal, even I felt bad for the guy.Im now E30less.

You don't think that a Journalism major, former Mayor, former Governor, former Chairperson of the Alaska Gas and Oil committee, highly sought after public speaker and best-selling author is incapable of writing a 12 paragraph response to the State of the Union address?

Explain.
She did have a couple of bad interviews during the election. But the majority of the negativity about her is the fact that she is a conservative and religious female. The left hates the fact that there is a female who is actually successful in politics, smart, well educated, independent, and forceful and also isn't a feminist radical with lesbian tendencies. It just doesn't fit the mold that they expect. If a woman is a mother of more than one child, religious, conservative, eats meat (and shoots her own), and actually likes going to hockey matches, well, that woman is obviously one of those lowbrow throw-backs who has lower than average intelligence and allows herself to be dominated by men.
So, their reaction is to ignore the facts, and force her into the mold even though she doesn't fit. The media trashes her all the time. They find sound bights and clips of her that they can exploit, and then they trash her. The most egregious are the false stories of what she said that were actually started as snide comments on liberal blogs and somehow got turned into fact. The general population just knows what they hear and that's what they have to go on. Ergo, she's an idiot and couldn't have possibly written that critique.
Funny, but that 15 minutes of Obama stumbling without his teleprompter sure didn't see much air time. But Palin's hashed interviews got played more than Giligan's Island reruns.1987 E30 325is

a. I know Journalism majors working at McDonald's. Not because its a bullshit degree, because they floated through it and are still idiots.
b. Mayor? Marion Barry /argument.
c. Gov? Jesse Ventura, and he was the gov of a mainland state. /argument.
d. Public speaker? Well, if someone else is writing it....
e. Author? Pamela Anderson is an author, think about it.
Im not saying she is on the same level as any of these people. Just hitting on all of the major points about how they dont really prove anything.
I think she can write something that long. I just dont think she could articulate such thoughts on her own without help.Im now E30less.

But the "coup de maître" on that speach was to make Americans realize that with 50 percent of the seats, the Republicans are also responsible for making things work or collapse, and that opposing everything all the time is not the way to go ahead...Brake harder. Go faster. No shit.

Well, that's reasonable if it's REASONABLE. It means nothing if you state what you want, don't budge, force the issue and make ZERO attempt at having some semblance of crossing party lines to make a plan that actually works. I don't even want to re-hash all of the primary points of Obama's failures. He's made it clear that his Agenda is 100% paramount to ANYTHING else regarding this country. He is not for the success of this country as he is out to prove that Democratic Liberal Socialism is his Religion.
We cannot prove who is smarter (Obama vs. Palin) as any conclusions made are thoroughly subject (apparently) to personal view points, agendas (Anti-ANY Religion, Period), ideals, beliefs, rhetoric. To make a point that Palin is stupid, is ignorant. However, I would assert that by making such a retarded, flamboyant, idiotic, clearly prejudiced statement does in fact, make you much stupider than either.
You live in Canada. Why are you even in this discussion? We all understand you're all for the state (Government) wiping your asshole and taking care of everything so you don't have to think for yourself. I'd be thrilled if you just stayed in Canada forever.
To insinuate that Republicans are causing the collapse of our country because they stand against what doesn't sit right with them, is the fucking stupidest thing Obama could say. Maybe if what was proposed was mildly bi-partisan, it would get some credit. Furthermore, Republicans have been crying for simply a VOICE in what's proposed. If you use (or have) any basic reasoning skills or logic, you'll realize that while yes, both parties have their issues, and bad apples, the Democrats have been very one sided in how they've gone about things since Obama was elected. Hell, his statement to the Republicans after he won was, "Too bad I won".
And to call out the Justices like that. Fucking bad form, man. That's tantamount to sitting a child in front of you and telling him it was wrong to take Sally's lunch money. He's made it perfectly clear that if you stand against HIS view points, HIS rhetoric, HIS agenda, HIS philosophy, HIS religion, HIS convictions, YOU'RE the Enemy. The polls violently disagree with what Obama thinks this country wants. He keeps calling everyone to the floor for disagreeing with him and maybe how they should open their eyes, or ears, or minds to his agenda, all in the name of Democracy. He's so blinded by his conviction to his religion he's chosen to be ignorant to the betterment of his Country.

I'm trying to stay out of most of this (and chances are I won't be back unless something intellectual shows up), and perhaps this isn't the right thread, but the rolleyes caught me on this one.
The woman does not believe in evolution. She doesn't think that man evolved from "monkeys who eventually swung down from the trees." If you look at all the evidence - and this is not some outrageous, anecdotal example - and realllly don't believe in evolution, then you clearly lack the ability to apply critical thinking to issues in general. For Christ's sake (pun not intended but not removed), she's even declared herself a young earth creationist (and, to be fair, backpedaled from it)!
Someone of such incompetence is not fit for office. Period.Comment

Oh boy here we go I just cant let this one go, not because I am sticking up for Palin, but for everyone no matter the beliefs.
1 to get it outta the way I hate religion, dont partake and its not for me.
Now on the other foot, If thats what gives a person the grounding they need to accept their circumstances and live a good life and gets them through the day so be it, good for them.
You see while you put your faith in evolution and that our existence is pure accident and luck of the draw. Thats fine thats our purgative as its theirs to place it on something else.
Belief in something greater is not necessarily a sign of mental weakness, some of the smartest people I know are some of the most devout Christians you will ever meet. Not to say this is always the case, because there are most certainly those that further such stereotypes. Just like there is in any group of individuals.
Our constitution protects yours, mine and everyone elses freedoms to worship or not, any and all gods, deities, theories, persons and ideologies they wish. To say some one is not qualified to hold public office based on their religious beliefs is, not only narrow minded, short sighted, and childish its also not allowed to be a criteria in the public forum in determining eligibility for public service.
I give you Article 6 of the Constitution the part in bold is what you need to pay attention to.
Originally posted by article 6The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.
Lastly by taking the position you have stated above you have not only lowered yourself to the level of the "crazy bible bashing religious nuts" that condemn any one that dose not think them, but have shown how you actually lack the very things you accuse them of. Now you can make these judgments on a personal level if you so chose that is also your right. That dose not mean that you are anywhere close to correct in your assumptions, Just to reiterate religious dose not always = Backwoods, uneducated, fool....... it seems the more education you get the more foolish you may become.
Grow the FUCK up.
(full disclosure: I like Pailn yes, but not as a presidential candidate, as a senator or congress woman sure)Last edited by mrsleeve; 01-29-2010, 07:15 PM.Originally posted by FusionIf a car is the epitome of freedom, than an electric car is house arrest with your wife titty fucking your next door neighbor.
