    Comcast bill argument

So me an my roommate had a small argument, Comcast recently raised our bill (i guess internet only stays cheap for 6 months) so its up 20$. I want to call and bitch and try and get it lower. She says we shouldnt because we should be loyal to comcast, and wait for promotions. I explained to her that comcast is a soul less company, she still doesnt buy it. She doesnt want to call and also doesnt want to give me her last four digits of her social security number to verify account either. I want to tell her that she then has to pay the added amount if she doesnt want to take any action. /rant

    what should i do?

Overpaying for cable is out. Here's a consumer-first guide to negotiating with the cable company and paying less each month. You're welcome!

She sounds like a real tool bag. Tell her that the company does not care at all about you (true) and that waiting for promotions is retarded because you guys just had a six month promotion for internet expire. The same thing will happen again.

I refuse to give Comcast my last 4 nor the whole thing. I've got to go down to the main office every time I need to speak with someone. The will soon have Nixons social on there records. Comcast will not give you new offers so just forget that option. Bend over . They raised our bill $4 without any notice. Fucktards.

It won't do any good at all. Not because it's a soulless company, but because you entered into a contract with them for the service. It was on a promo price and now it's gone back to the normal price. You can choose to shut it off if you want. She's right. Not about being loyal, but she's right that it's a waste of time. You can cancel and then try to sign back up using your info for the account and get another promo price.

Jeesh. Let me mention this now, there's this thing called a variable interest rate mortgage. Don't ever sign up for one, mkay?

              All of this is false.

I called, said I couldn't pay the new price. Asked what the options were. Comcast reps are paid to retain customers. They will do a lot. Have your local alternatives (U-verse) and their prices to compare. They will drop their prices to work things out with you. If they don't, call and try again.

In fact, if you have been with them for 6 or whatever months and the cheap TV promo drops, they have a "Loyalty" price that is just about as low - but your roommate is dumb - they won't just give it to you, you have to call, complain, and ask.

My roommate's mom has been calling for years and keeps getting them to drop the price back down. Accepting the non-promo high price is for pussies

That link that Heeter posted is no bullshit. Our local cable provider is the same way, we use the same system as Comcast, just re-branded as our own. They will bend over backwards to maintain you as a customer, and going to the competition, especially Dish or DirecTV. Just follow the tips that guy gives at the end of the article, and you'll be golden. Treat the guy on the other end with respect and like a human, and you'll get a fair deal.

this is so true. and no matter how long a promotion is, you are almost always eligible for some other promotion to keep the price down.

We just had a similar issue with comcast today. We had been riding the promo price for six months and got another promo price when that ran out (about two months ago) but today they just randomly raised our bill. My girlfriend called and said we couldn't afford it so they gave us our old price back again.

One time I called in to comcast after our 6 month promos ran out.

Our bill during the promo was 80 dollars a month and had HBO/Showtime, 12mb cable, and standard HD cable with 4 cable boxes.

After our promos ran out this was costing us almost 140$ a month, I called in and after 15 minutes on the phone the cable guy had added in 4 free cable boxes (removing our current charges for them), HD channels, hbo, cinemax, showtime, starz, NFL package, 16mb cable, and free cable box rental.

Price before calling in ~80$, price after calling in... ~$54...

It was epic, I got half the shit in the world added and the bill dropped 30 bucks.. hah

Trying to get them to give me free digital voice right now but not sure what angle to take, I tried saying I'm going to vonage but they told me to go ahead.. ?

I endured the Comcast monopoly for years. They NEVER come calling to offer current customers a better deal than what they're already paying. I tried canceling once and trying to buy new service at the awesome rates being advertised for new customers... and I got the shaft because my address had been serviced by Comcast to a customer with my name within six months of the request for new service.

Now, this was in a planned, incorporated community where all power and communication lines are buried underground. Competition arrived here only at the last possible minute of the final hour Comcast's deal with the town allowed.

Enter Verizon and their FiOS service...

After ten months of service (TV, dual HD DVR, Internet), my wife took a call from them wondering if we'd like to upgrade and commit to another year. She asked how much. Lo and behold, it was $45 cheaper... and they bumped us to the full HD program set... and upped our Internet speeds too. Verizon is now advertising One Bill to lump wireless service together with any/all of their other services. When I looked into it, the total bill was like getting free wireless phones. We're definitely doing it.
