Regardless of whether he's a "douche" or not, the high publicity he will bring to the WRC is a good thing. The WRC is pretty much the coolest type of professional racing out there, but sports networks and the Speed channel are all completely consumed by inane Nascar programming. Ken Block has a high profile and will expose many people to the awesomeness that is WRC, regardless of whether or not he gets stomped (and he will, at least initially). I hope he does well though, because that will pave the way for more talent and money from America. Maybe someday there will be a top American competitor.

Granted it was Rally America, but apparently his first outing in Michigan went well until suspension failure caused him to retire.
All this douche talk sounds like a bunch of hating, hardcore. Dude's got money and knows how he wants to spend it to have a good time, and seems to be making a decent profit off his investment. I say good for him, sounds like the American Dream.
I hope he does well in WRC, cause as stated above, it's always nice to have a fellow American to root for.Last edited by boom-monkey; 02-05-2010, 01:20 AM.

See Block isn't know for being a really good driver, he's known for impressing kids that like him.
There are drivers out there that get hired because they bring money to the team not just because they can race.
Block can't finish races. Till he does and does well he's only a teen's idol....because he makes "SWEET" videos of him driving....LMFAO. That's why he's popular.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

I wish someone would make a video half as "sweet" as him for e30s. If I had millions I'd buy some high speed cameras make a sweet video and have people hate on me for it.
I think people think it's thier duty to hate on people who are liked just to create a balance. "oh this guys getting to popular, I better call him a douche."

Or maybe some people just see it for what it is and call a spade a spade.
That's part of what's wrong with this nation. Popularity rules over talent. And it's dumbing down Rally racing.
After Block gets his ass handed to him, maybe he'll do the right thing and just stay popular instead of focus on racing....lol.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

Personally I think it's a mixed blessing. For all the followers who gained attention through videos of shenanigans, now might have an interest in actual World Rally's. It would be nice to get coverage of the WRC again ever since Speed turned into Speed TV to Speedvision to Nascar24/7.
He may be a douche in the opinions of some, but it isn't his character in question right now. It's the love of the sport, not loyalties to manufacturers or fans opinions.
I'm not a fan personally as any of the veteran drivers are always fun watching... but just because Subaru as a manufacturer backed out doesn't mean that there won't be privateers using subies. Prodrive still put out a Impreza N2010 GroupN car based on the GR chassis (08+ STi).
It's a shame that Mitsu has pulled out a couple years back. Two icons out of the running so they get less exposure, but still make an impact. In any event, I hope the attention draws WRC closer stateside.
This means nothing to all of you since I just registered and this is my first post, hello all :-DOriginally posted by FredKHowever, in your absence, I will likely sit in your seat buck naked while making racecar noises as if I were maxing your E30 out on the Mulsanne Straight while allowing the perforated vinyl to soak up my butt sweat (going 200 mph does that to you).

But seriously, Rally has been loosing people, manufacturers, and coverage over the past few years. Granted, Block isn't that good of a driver, and he probably wont finish many races, but he is popular. Which means more people will watch, more coverage, and more money. With money, will come more drivers, and more manufacturers. Thats the idea at least.
Block? Well he's a rich guy that has money to burn, so he does all this stuff gets, popular and gets to be a race car driver.
Ken Block = FUCKING DOUCHE!

Josh is on point with his view of block.
Next on to why WRC is no longer on speed in the states. The company that owns the rights to WRC coverage and broadcasts raised its rates to the point where it was not a profitable endeavour.for speed to carry it anymore. Or at least make of hard to justify the expense any longer.
As to speed going to all NASCAR all the time, that's a marketing ploy to male the most money after it was bought by a very large media company it drifted away from its roots, yeah it sucks but that's just how the way the world works. You guys can bitch and piss and moan all you want be we are in the minority and NASCAR is the mainstream base, and that's where the money isOriginally posted by FusionIf a car is the epitome of freedom, than an electric car is house arrest with your wife titty fucking your next door neighbor.
