    LCD Gurus...Help Me Decide

Okay, so with the already upon us tax refund season, I'm looking at getting a new tv. I'm looking for LCD, not sure on the brand. Vizio is really getting my attention, cause it's easily had at my local Wal-Mart. There is a Sears, an ABC Warehouse, and HH Gregg that are fairly close (about 20 miles away), not sure what they have to offer. They're generally more expensive on most things.

I would like to stay under a grand. I'd rather not ship, unless it's a killer deal.

Here are 3 Vizio TVs that have caught my eye.

    47" 1080p 120Hz - $898.00

    42" 1080p 120Hz - $748.00

    42" 1080p 240Hz - $778.00

    All options and opinions appreciated.

Vizios are ok. Samsungs are generally considered to be the market leader.

Make sure you check out Amazon. They have amazing deals on TVs. No tax. Free white glove delivery.

When comparing models, buy the one with the highest contrast ratio you can afford. That's the one feature you want to pay extra for (after size). It's worth the extra 100 to get double the contrast ratio.

I'm typically a brandwhore when it comes to almost anything, but I went against my own rule and bought a SV420XVT back when they first came out after reading some interesting reviews on it. The only regret I have from making that purchase is that I didn't go with a larger screen.

I regards to the brand name, I everything inside me tells me to look elsewhere, but for one reason or another, these guys actually managed to put out a decent product. Not only did the TV do well in comparison tests, but it actually beat some more recognizable brands like LG and Toshiba.

I would consider Sony and Samsung the leaders in this market, but I can't buy any of them because the models I want I cannot afford. So in this scenario I went with the lesser known brand and their higher end model which included the features I was looking for, and ended up with a pretty nice screen.

I'm assuming the SV421XVT is the same model as mine but with some updated features (like 240Hz). I'd say go for it. If you can, get it at a Sam's Club or Costco. They tend to be cheaper there and automatically extend the warranty by a year or something like that.

I would wait to see what pops up online, there are always good deals on 42" 120hz tv's. Sony had a fucking amazing deal a month ago, 42" 120 with a ps3 and movie for $950.

if you are going to buy a tv, buy it on amazon (free shipping, generally the lowest price) or tiger direct (with bing cashback).

you can get 10+% cash back on any purchase at tiger if you go through bing.com cashback.

Okay, did some more checking. Newegg and Amazon fails, Sam's Club on the other hand has the SV421XVT for 698.00 and there is one of them about 20 miles from me.

There are perks to buying from Sam's/Costco. Well, Costco for sure, I'm not 100% bout Sam's though.

We don't have any Costco stores near here, the closest is 80 miles (Columbus, OH). I checked their site and they have the 42" 120Hz for the same price as the 240Hz at Sam's.

If it's cheaper then all the others but has the same specs... It usually is shit.

I found that out when I bought my Samsung, they had 2 models, one was 100$ more but the exact same specs. The panel was manufactured by a different company, if you looked at them side by side, it was an enormous difference.
