    Pex for air line!!

I have been told this is possible; anyone here doing it? I need to run 5 drops in my shop and a few at my home garage so buying the tools may be worth it. the material and fitting are very resonable?

    Thanks,

    Tyler

Home water pressure is not 80 psi so I would say no. I've seen pvc setups but I don't like being around them. Don't get cheap, you need filtration, regulation, possibly lubrication, and a drop leg.

Yeah, it works great as long as you either use the expansion ring type, or make sure you have really good crimps on the steel ring type. Im not sure it would hold up to commercial use though.

make sure whatever distribution system you used is approved for air. most plastic pipe isn't, and its very dangerous if it fails.

I wouldn't use PEX from my experiences with install and working with a plumber that does specifically PEX. Not for air feeds. Great for homes and businesses though ;)

How much is the PEX system?

I recently did a 25 foot single drop system with copper and the amount of water I drain out of my dryer is amazing. It was also rather expensive, given how simple the system was. These plastic tubes are good insulators and would keep the moisture in the lines all the way to your tools, shortening their lifetimes.

If you're on a super budget, I'd check out the Harbor Freight nylon air line kit. $100, but you can usually get a 20% off coupon pretty easily, and you can run 2 drops on 150 feet of tubing.

Fred You could have gone PVC to save on cost over Copper, about the pex type tubing I would ask the guys on garagejournal.com/forum/ as I mentioned on S14.net

I hope you're joking about using PVC. Very bad idea.

I've heard that PEX does just fine though.

The shop is 24x60 and is getting wire tray ran next week for power and vac. The reason for Pex was it is flexible, low cost and will run in the they tray nicely. I do think however just buying some good solid air hose may be the best option. Black pipe is to heavy and since we have sprinklers not a good idea to have similar pipe. I actually thought copper unless well insulated added moisture.

We already have a filter for debris/moisture, spare air tank and compressor ready to rock. The air is not for airtools (some use maybe) but only to blow off work stations, printers, and to style hair!

Home shop is getting turned into a prep station to restore 3 cars since after March I can have little to no dust at the large shop. We will be having an open house as well.

Thanks for all the input guys, heading to garage journay to snoop around.

                      Ty
