A friend has a john cooper mini vert. Its a fun car to drive, but rattles and squeaks like crazy. Maybe its just the jcw package/vert combo.

My father has one, and for the few times I have driven it, I must say, it is quite a fun car to drive. He has an '04 S model. Handles very nicely and is very responsive.
I could see myself getting one down the road sometime!'91 Brilliantrot 318iS - Sold

I own a mini cooper s. Last week i just replaced the supercharger ($1600 reman. from the dealer) due to the fact that i installed a 15% smaller pulley. If i didn't replace the pulley with the smaller one i believe it would still be running. But overall their is no extra maintenance for a supercharger. The car runs really strong. Especially for a 2003, it still feels good as new.
If your planning on getting one, then get one.

^^ haha how long are those spark plug wires?
Some guy who comes out to our autoX's has a turbo mini with about 20k dumped into it, it's bat shit insane.
My buddy who works at BMW as a tech said they're a bitch to work on, engine bay is super tight, especially on the turbos.1985 325e 2.8 Turbo VEMS

Thanks for the info guys. I haven't yet sat in one of these or driven one, but planning a drive on Sunday.
I can answer this myself once I sit in one, but how's the headroom? I'm 6'2"...
Also, how do these fare with higher mileage? I'm looking to keep this relatively cheap and probably won't be getting a low mileage example. I'm not expecting E30 build quality, but then again nothing could be worse than an E36...sigpic

i got rid of my e30 and just bought a 2010 cooper. I drove it from florida to new mexico comfortably. I got anywhere from 38-41mpg. I'm 6'1 and i get in and out alright. When i was test driving it the salesman at the dealership told me that it was designed for somebody 6'8. I love this car. The S is about 3 grand more than the cooper. You could get a well equipped cooper for about the price of an S. (which is what i did) good luck with your searchLife is good. Do what you like. Like what you do.
