Yep. I've been aware of this law for a while.

If you can't move over, then slow down.

This also applies to tow trucks, disabled cars, Cal-Trans workers and even convicts working on the side of the road picking up trash.

    Move over or slow down.

I do it out of habit from driving truck. Its not fun being on the side of the road and have cars go flying past you at 65+ from a foot away

I went to an 8-hour driving class a while ago because i had a speeding ticket (16 over, first one!) and 3 other people in the class were there because of This law. One of them even claimed that the cop was sitting at his exit with lights on, alone, and got pulled for exiting because he had to pass right by the cop car (which was, again, alone...no car pulled over or anything) to use the exit.

but that was just the kid's word

shit, two times of the 4 times ive been pulled over i waited for an exit to apper while the cop kept on saying "pull over now" on the speaker thing...after getting off the exit it was hell for me...lol the cop screaming saying i was going to be charged with "failure to stop"...i was like wtf....i didnt get charged with "failure to stop" but the asshole cop impounded my car for 30 days!!!!! 1400 to get the damn car back and plus the ticket...all because i was driving doing 68 mph.....

also ive seen about 4 cops talking on the phone while driving...im going to carry my camera more often......
cops in california are dicks, and get mad for every single thing....like scratching your head when they say to put your hands on the steering wheel.....its ridiculous....anyways i guess its the law

my attorney said this to me "california, pshhh its a corrupt place, where courts just get money off people for every single thing. there is no such thing as justice in most cases"

Don't try the LEast Coast if you're looking for sanity on the road. People here are challenged.

Never been an issue for me, and I see people doing it all the time. I also throw them a wave to let them know that I'm aware they're stopping me, so they don't think I'm trying to ditch them or something.

This law actually (arguably) makes it less safe for drivers.

Yep I had a similar thing happen. I kept driving till I felt it safe FOR THE COP before I pulled over.

    ^ lol.

drivers are horrible about this in maryland. i always move a lane over if cops are on the side of the road. even if it isnt law here, as said before, its just common courtesy.

now if we could instill the whole "slower traffic move right" idea as common courtesy.. man i'd be one happy panda.

As much as you think that might be a good thing, the cops around here actually get upset at you when you do that. I was pulled over once and I turned a corner off a highway onto a neighborhood street, and the cop was pissed when he walked up to the car. I only drove maybe 30 feet from the point that his lights came on. A few of my friends have also had this happen to them.

In NY, I would acknowledge the Officer's presence with a wave and hazards, then pull in somewhere safe for him AND for me. Like a gas station or convenient store parking lot. In Germany, they pull in front of YOU, a sign on the top of their car flashes 'Bitte Folgen', or 'please follow'. Then they stop you where they want you to stop.

And OP, your sig is dead-on. When you're in the middle, you get screwed.
