I believe it. I was called by old manager to see if I wanted to go to work for him at his new company.

If I did that would be my 3rd new job since this recession started.

Thankfully my only skill isn't asking "Would you like fries that?"

This thread is an almost complete waste of time.

Here's the same graph, in percent change from the last year:

from 1950 to 1980 there was about an average of 2% growth each year, followed by 1% of growth until 1999. Then it dips down to -1%, then back up, then back to -1%.

All of which means, the economy's been growing rapidly for a long time and is currently a bit unsettled. yay for math.

Comparing this year to last year is like comparing high tide to low tide but only measuring during low tide. In other words, we were already well on our way down at this time last year. Things are bouncing back up in that graph, there's no doubt, but relative to a pretty sucky economic condition. It looks better than it is.

I don't trust most of those graphs since I don't understand how some of those numbers are generated. GDP is pretty much worthless if it contains government spending. Government spending is like dipping water out of the deep end of the pool and pouring it into the shallow end. Government can't create wealth like that because they aren't raising the level of the pool.

All I know is that we are not out of the wood yet. Things are unstable still and it wouldn't take much to have things start crashing again. I see an increase in my company's business, I hope it continues. I'm just concerned that we'll be seeing very high inflation and sharply rising interest rates very soon trying to counteract all the monetary inflating the Fed has done.

Money flows like water, it goes along the easy path. But money does not generate wealth. It facilitates transactions. If you have a bunch of money out there that is not backed by real goods and services, like now, that money will flow to places where it isn't needed creating bubbles (yes people get wealthy, but it isn't creating long term sustainable wealth that helps us all. It's two different things.), and it causes inflation (which the government likes, and you should hate).

By the way, the term "creating wealth" is a reference to the overall state of society. It does not necessarily mean a single individual gets wealthy. When real wealth is created, we all benefit, the level of the pool rises. When a single individual gets wealthy at the cost of another getting poor, then that's usually due to either illegal activities, or because of government manipulations.

All it takes is taking one look to see that most of the jobs out there just plain suck.

With the way our politicians spend money this country could fall into much much worse times.
In the mean time Obama just cares about passing the Health care Bill instead of working on REAL jobs.
