Didn't even read the other replies. The only argument my computer-geek father in law can present to support his case for Windows computers is software availability. Macs can run Windows within their OS. Argument snuffed. Take advantage of a stable, high quality platform that isn't vulnerable to the internet bullshit and crappy operating software quirks that PC's are plagued with, AND use whatever shitty version of Windows Microsoft comes out with next!

It depends on which computers your looking at. For PC I suggest VAIO FW or Toshiba Sattelite. For Mac I suggest Macbook pro 15". Or do you want a desktop? If you want a desktop, go PC and just get a flashy monitor and run windows 7.

Mac's are just a pretty interface on top of a BSD core, there is no reason you should have to pay double the hardware's value just for a nice user interface in my opinion. I'm not sure how exactly one can claim you get what you pay for with a mac, they use the exact same hardware as PC's do, Apple just gives you less options and a higher price tag.

With that said, you'd probably be happy with a Mac assuming you don't have to use applications that are incompatible. I personally just don't see the point of paying so much money for a BSD operating system.. I'd rather just use BSD or Linux.

Experience does not equal knowledge. Again, there is nothing wrong with Macs, just remember that the extra money you're spending is only on the (excellent) marketing, including the great form factor.

Oh, and with bootcamp you dont even need VMware fusion anymore. I have a copy of vista on my mac just in case. Pretty much just play halo 2 once in a while

My uncle works at microsoft, and when doing tests they found that intel macs scored higher running windows than their PC counterpart.

I have a similar story with Dr Zed. I've been doing IT for 15 years. Built, repaired, networked hundreds of windows computers. I knew Windows 95/98/2000/XP like the back of my hand. I never cared about macs and thought they were overpriced, overmarketed, overcolored pieces of plastic. Then OS X came out in 2001, and it's BSD core got my attention. As more hardware/software iterations came out, websites like Anandtech also noticed, and were giving good reviews. Then Apple announced the Intel transition in 2005, and the craptastic Vista was released in 2006. When my laptop died a year later, I had to give the mac a try, and I haven't looked back since.

There's no more need for a yearly reformat. Viruses/trojans/spyware are a thing of the past. The hardware/software integration is beautiful. No more driver conflicts. The machine doesn't slow down. Networking is cake.

Just get the mac.

To put it simply buy a mac if you can afford it. If you end up hating it just install windows on it and you will still have a better computer than if you bought a cheap PC laptop. In the end you get what you pay for.
