PC or Mac??

Do you know anything on the subject of Macs vs PCs that you would ike to share? Don't worry, my knowledge is based on experiencing both. 25+ years of experience. If you read my post, you would have understood I also happen to have a brand new PC laptop, which I don't use as it is crap... Do you also have a Mac on top of your PC so that you can share your parallel experiences? ;-)

Experience does not equal knowledge. Again, there is nothing wrong with Macs, just remember that the extra money you're spending is only on the (excellent) marketing, including the great form factor.

Yeah, I voiced my opinion on my experience with the two. I'm not sitting here trying to say how Windows based PCs suck.

Underdog - You need to pull your head out of your ass. Let people make their own decisions and inform them the best you can instead of repeating "they are the same." No one gives a shit how "the same" they are. Most Americans don't have the vaguest idea how computers work, and don't care to know. If you do know computers, windows based PCs will work fine.

In my experience every MAC i've dealt with has run perfectly. I cannot say the same for windows based PCs. My HP laptop has been mangled with viruses and others multiple times. I've had to completely swipe the HD 3 times and re-load everything. I refuse to pay for "protection" programs and bog down my computer's performance (I do run AVG, but it doesn't catch everything.) My desktop PC crashes all the time.

The main reason why MACs don't have the same problem is because of the number of viruses, trojans, spyware being developed for them. The number of MAC users hasn't gotten big enough to cause problems yet. It will eventually, but for now MACs are "safe."

I mad the Mac switch and I'm never looking back... Every once in a while I will accidentally cross paths with a Vista or 7 machine and I just have no idea what Windows did with itself anymore.

I'm definitely a Mac Man.

My vote is for pc. Way more bang for your buck. I am running on an acer i got at walmart for $400 2 1/2 years ago, started to slow down about a year ago so i upgraded to 2g of ram for around $60 and it became faster than new. I'm used to PCs so i can do way more on my pc than i can on a mac.

Mac has done very well for me the last 17 years. I have a pc laptop that is infuriating to use. I'm a fan maybe even a "fanboy" but I'm not pushing the matter. I could care less if anyone else uses a mac. I don't need former PC nerds telling me what they do and don't like. I'm not poor so I use mac period.

The OS is only one element that makes the Macs. There's a lot of hardware in a Mac laptop. And it all comes included, no need to purchase them separately from different manufacturers that makes parts that crash your PC... ;-)

You say "There's a lot of hardware in a Mac laptop". True, but there isnt any hardware in a Mac laptop that isnt in a laptop that runs windows. It really is all the same hardware underneath the pretty shell. If you want a nice looking piece of hardware and a nice looking OS, by all means by a Mac. There is nothing wrong with Macs, but just remember that all the extra money youre spending is on the (excellent) marketing.

Been on a Mac since 1984. I have four Apple laptops at home and one Toshiba PC... I never use the Toshiba. Piece of crap.

If you know how to read menues, you know how to maintain a Mac. No extra knowledge is required. They do everything for you. if you run a PC, better have a savy friend.

And Macs very rarely fail...

I don't have to pay for anti-virus, anti-spyware, ect, or go through 5hr computer scans to find some POS problem. If there is any problem, you just take it to the mac store and they fix it.

edit: actually, yeah, you are perfectly safe, everyone keep running mac :-D

BTW, the new intel MACs run windows better than the PC's imo, but you will rarley ever be using it.

Vote for mac here. I've ran my macbook everyday for 1.5 yrs, download torrents like crazy, hit up NWS sites every now and again, NO PROBLEMS. It is still as fast as the day I got it. Mac is great at updating their software. The best part is, I don't have to pay for anti-virus, anti-spyware, ect, or go through 5hr computer scans to find some POS problem. If there is any problem, you just take it to the mac store and they fix it.

Autodesk and gaming are the only things I might have a windows based PC for. If I needed to though, I would just boot my mac up in windows and run autodesk.

If you have the little extra bit of money buy the mac. Don't get caught up in the "ahhh, but your programs won't run on a mac!!" I have the new macbook pro and I love it. I'm also an engineering student who has to run all sorts of different programs and I have no problems.

Most popular programs out there now have an OSX version or are coming out with one very soon, there is a demand for it.

For all others, I run a program on my mac that is called "crossover", it allows me to run any windows based programs on OSX. For any serious compatability issues I have 40GB of my hard drive partitioned for Windows (which I can boot in by holding the option key durring startup). Partitioning and installing a copy of windows was very easy, the computer comes with a program called "boot camp" that is a simple step-by-step program for installing a copy of windows.

BTW, the new intel MACs run windows better than the PC's imo, but you will rarley ever be using it.

^and customer service. No don't pull the DIY line. Yes, some apple geniuses are in fact idiots, but for the most part, apple service is very very very good.

Some people would much rather hand it to someone else.

indeed you are paying extra for the customer service, but you can get that with dell or any other big outlet. Genius bar is a cool service but is $$$
