Does rosetta stone work?

Rosetta Stone is great, I know one of the owners(they are based out of Harrisonburg, VA). I have only used the Spanish, I am not that far into it yet. I also took 4 years of Spanish and now can barely follow a conversation. We'll see how it goes.

Well Im suprised you didnt have a chance to become fluent considering you live in Florida.

You really gotta consider that outside of the tri-county area (Dade, Broward & Palm Beach) there really is hardly any spanish speakers. The only other area where you'd find a considerable amount would be Orlando.

I hear good reviews from friends using Rosetta Stone though.

http://www.livemocha.com/ is an alternative. It's like Rosetta Stone to a degree. You can get feedback from other members who speak the language and you help others who are trying to learn English. And, it's free.

I tried some of their German package, and it seemed pretty good.

I think the 'does it work?' question really applies less to the actual program, and more to the amount of effort you put in to learn the language. If you want to learn it, you will learn it. No program is going to hold your interest if you're lazy.

That being said, they use it to teach ESL kids at the school where I work, and it seems to work pretty damn well.
