Need daily driver - budget ~5k

Sorry, but another daily driver thread. I was looking into a Mini Cooper, but they are just too damn expensive.

I'm now considering an E34 535i/m, 540i/6, E39 540i/6, or an E36 M3. These can all be had within my budget, and I don't think I'll love any of them enough to want to spend money building them up.

My only worry with the 5 series will be fuel economy.

Anyone drive any of these daily and have any feedback? Yea or nay?


Last time I tried to get a daily driver I ended up with an E30 M3, so plan failed(sorta 8) ). Accordingly, I think I need to shoot for something other than an E30 this time, so that's out.

I've been DDing a 95 525it for a while now. Its pretty much the perfect driver. My only problem is fighting the urge to spend money on it. I'll probably end up ditching it for a Subaru Legacy wagon so I can have AWD and no urge to monkey with it. Can't lose with either.

E28 would be cool

E34 with M50 and a 5 speed would be pretty cool, would probably get halfway decent mileage at least. Or you could go for a touring if you didn't mind living with an auto and the cool sunroofs of death.
