i did that september '08 with a damn log splitter.


believe it or not, i have a fucking fingernail.
and the tip mysteriously grew back. but they did take a big chunk out of the palm of my hand to put on top. now i have a wicked scar on the palm of my hand. it's still sometimes sensitive.

while im at it, i'll post up a couple more pics. that first pic in the post above was taken 10 days after it happened. the ER doc just wrapped it up and told me to pick up some motrin on the way home.... so 10 days later, and a shit ton of ibuprofen, thats what it looked like. the hand doc was PISSED. he said that the ER doc should have called him immediately for surgery. he was even more pissed when he found out that he didn't give me any pain meds. he actually called over to the hospital 3 times during the 45 minutes i was sitting in the chair. then he was surprised to find out that i drove a stick shift there. :rofl:

this was after surgery #1. i was stuck like this for 10 days. what a bitch that was....


then, after the 10 days, he cut the other half of the "flap" off of my palm, and sewed it to the top of my finger.


this had to be done because the part that came off was lost, and i'd assume smashed to bits. it was a 20 ton log splitter after all...

but the good news for you is that you've got more finger left than i did. let me go snap a pic of what my shit looks like right now.

so don't fret, theres a good chance it will be more normal than you think. the doc told me that if i got a nail, it would be really small. he hasn't seen how much has come back. :D

wow lucky most guys I see with missing finger tips and fingers never got their nails back. thats cool, you hardly know you lost any finger.

On a side note I am amazed I still have all mine, and have never really hurt one too bad.
I grew up on a farm, and worked construction all my life and have had some close calls. I nearly took the tip off my left middle finger field dressing a deer, never even felt it and the only thing the kept it on was the nail.
