    Insurance

Would you rather pay what you currently do and drive your car as you do now?

    or

Have your insurance company to install a blackbox in your car but pay half of what you currently do based on driving behavior?

I'm too afraid they would use my driving speed against me, particularly the autocross and track fundays. If I was better about speed limits, and it was a new car that actually costs more than $20/month to insure, I would consider the opportunity to pay 1/2 as much.

I'll say no go to the black box too. I've been lucky to not have any infractions yet so my insurance is only $28 a month for the 318is. If they knew how I drove it'd probably double.

well there is a black box in cars as it now to record that last few seconds before a crash. OEM's have been using them for years to collect that kinda of data.

That said, FUCK NO TO THE TATTLE TALE.

Some of the companies in my industry have them installed into the work trucks complete with real time GPS tracking, I have heard stories of guys getting the shit can because they were driving the speed limit to get to a job and accused of being too hard on the equipment. Even though the truck was in better shape when turned in than it went out (happened to a Buddie of mine) who is very good at taking care of the equipment.

state farm, liability only on the e30's. $20 a pop. Motorcycle is about the same story, it's also from the 90's.
I use them for my home insurance so there may be a discount there.. honestly I have not shopped around much.

That said, I'm still sure it would pop a flag the first time the car goes 80+mph and I'll be in for a larger bill than before the black box.

to re-iterate, if this was a new car under a loan so I had to have comprehensive, was $100+month for insurance, I would let em do it and hope I don't get screwed. I just don't have the money to be paying that kind of insurance.
