Any BMW K100Rs 16v owner here?

I am currently looking at the purchase of a 16v and wondered how better are they from the 8v. Sure they have the one-sided trailing arm, wider rims and 4 pot calipers, but are they that better? BTW I want a touring bike, so I don't care about the "100hp only"...

Similar to this bike on the right.

Brake harder. Go faster. No shit.

Nifty. If I didn't live in rainy WA, I think I'd angle to get a bike for commuting. Imagine if you will pulling up in a work truck with a trailer. All yours tools are inside with a lurking motorcycle in the back. Day ends, you wheel it out, drive home! Best day ever... dreams are fun.

If you pick one up, let me know how it is. I've heard (unreliable sources) that the BMW bikes can be fickle on the reliability side. Any truth to this?

      I've heard of many 100k miles K100s

They only rev to 8k RPM and are quite simple motors.

And the engine sounds like an S14...

I've been thinking about a K75S for myself. I like the idea of 1,000cc power, but a lot of riders prefer the vibes (or lack thereof) of the 750 triple.

I wish I could afford a K1. But too much money for my budget.

BMW riders wear rain gear year round even on a spotless day.

I had a 1987 BMW K100 RT from 2001 through 2006. I thought it was a great bike. I sold it to buy a 2003 1150GS only because of all the ranch roads out here in Oklahoma City. The K bike is very good for the touring mission. Maintenance is minimal and it never left me on the side of the road. I have found BMW owners usually take care of their bikes and garage them.

When I had my 1000cc sport bikes, I hid a rain suit under the seat. While always wearing padded leather pants, and leather gloves, even around town.

I once rode for 5 hours straight under a torrential rain with no rain suit. It was indeed terrible.

I've only been caught in rain twice, both times I had my leather jacket, gloves, jeans and shoes. After about 5 minutes those rain drops start feeling like BBs...
