Would you tell your boss you have an upcoming interview?

I need tuesday off for a job interview yet I dont know if I should tell him or not. He'd make a great reference yet he is kinda a pissy guy and would take it personally I was looking for a new job. Like as if I didn't like him and I wanted to get a new job because of it.
Ma che cazzo state dicendo? :|

Call in sick, verify interview went well, give 30 days notice, request letter of recommendation.

My boss, yes. Yours - probably not. Just request a personal day.

I would call in sick yet we fly out every Monday and fly home every Friday. Its hard to call out or use a personal day in the middle of the week.

Why give the boss a heads up? As if he would let you know that you might be fired in a month. No - keep that info under your hat. Things might fall through, and you'll look like an ass. You'll gain nothing by telling him.

Well nothing except having the upper hand for two weeks - that is if he doesn't fire you one the spot. Not sure what kind of organization you work for(skating rink? are you the DJ guy for all the 8 year old?), but it's not uncommon to get escorted out of the building 10 mins after you turn in your two weeks notice. In business, that's normal. It's not worth the risk.

Don't tell. Just ask for a day off. If your interview is positive then give enough time for the future ex-employer to find a replacement. If you don't get the job, nobody will know it.

Hopefully, your new pay check will be substantially more at the new place, because that's about the only non-personal reason you can give to switch jobs. If your current employer asks why you didn't ask for a raise, simply mention you feared to get slacked if you asked for one, especially considering the current economical mood... To back this excuse, don't hesitate to hint at it this week. Simply casually ask what are the possibilities of salary improvement in the short term (like during a coffee break). Plant the seed...

Changing jobs is exactly like changing girlfriends...

We have furlough weeks every quarter, wage freezes for two years, and overtime caps. The company is driving itself into the ground. I am never home during the week. I've missed family events because I've been stuck overnight in airports and had to fly home the following day on saturday. I rode my motorcycle a thousand miles total last two summers.

To find a job Im home every night and make more than I do now, why not make the jump?

I just sent an email asking for a half personal day. That way I can fly out that night.

Thankfully that was not the case at either of my prior jobs.
