This Daedelus is awesome! I want a Monome now!! I gotta look into those interfaces! I was saving for a Jazz Mutant Lemur, but a monome might be a more economical choice.
Respect to everyone who still has turntables like me, but these cats are taking it to a new level. Its a natural musical evolution as DJs and producers and artists move from analog to digital they experiment with new technology. There are way too many new paintbrushes so to speak as in software and hardware that out there to fuck around with. Imagine having acceleramators in your smaller instrument to control your effects on tracks. Have instant access to your track. The ability to control the volume of your samples, and loops and other sounds so simply just takes musical creation to a new level. I have seen some people do some insane stuff with wii-motes even!
And who cares if he doesn't use discs. I am sure its plenty difficult. Considering with a monome, you have to program it yourself. No two play the same. The fact that it is improv is what impresses me.
im not saying it is not interesting....just saying i would not call it "DJ"ing....
just like rocking an mpc or sp is not djing...
true music has progressed...but i will always rock wax!!!! (and some serato)
its just that people dont really care about the source ..just the sound...
kinda like a shallow chick with big fake tits...
big props for innovation and being from the west coast!

just my opinion...
I don't think you could really improvise something that dynamic with vinyl. Which I have vinyl spinning as we speak so its not like I don't like it. I guess it isn't considered DJing in the original sense. But what else would you call it? If I enjoy a song, I will listen. Regardless of the source.

Not dubstep, but still rad.
i dug that beat! sounded live with electronic samples..but hot none the less...
i do agree vinyl has limitations. but breaking these limits while working with a standard tool is the essence. like a new kung fu style.
i think what he is doing is live programing or performance programing . .. its dope ..its new...i dont think it is djing.
new tools lead to new styles...there will be lots of new stuff as music continues to evolve
I think hes using Virtual DJ with custom skins projected onto a touchscreen...I WANT ONE!! Looks like fun!
my boy showed me that...looks wack to me...like it was not responing quick enough...guess thats why i like my e30 ..no drive by wire bull shit!...even my 02 with no power steering...i just like the feel!!!
I dont think its is multitouch. Would look really cool at a show if it worked well.
The iPad looks like a cool interface.
edit: on second thought I will stick to my serato and CDJ-1000s and technics 1200s, after watching numerous videos on the iPad Djing, I realise how lame the iPad is for DJing, at least with the available apps!
Does anyone here use virtual DJ? I used to have it but I have not seen any recent updates to it.
