    Check out meh movie, plz :)

    I made a short film for a film class at ODU. This was my first time doing anything other than a basic montage of random shots put to music. To be clear, I've edited before, and shot footage for events, but never had a story board with planned shots. Nor have I ever written a script and cast actors. Take a look and let me know what you guys think think...

    A short film for I made for a film class offered at ODU. Filmed with a Flip Ultra HD and a DVX100B. Edit and effects were done in Final Cut Pro, the accident was…

    *I couldn't figure out how to turn on html so I could embed the video. Anyone know how?*

    I liked it man. I'm also a film student and if I had to be critical I would say the first scene overshadows the second. That said, the first scene was awesome.

      Thanks! The first scene was kind of an after thought. Part of the assignment required the film to have a dolly shot. The day I had all the equipment reserved to shoot, some other douchebag prof took the dolly without warning. Kinda effed up my shooting plans, but I shot the second scene anyway. I figured I could reschedule another shoot to get the dolly shot, but the actors weren't available again at the same time. So I made that intro instead. The dolly shot is actually a Flip Ultra HD taped to a magazine drug across the table. I think it turned out okay, but it's kind of outta place considering the rest of the film.

        I liked it man. The intro was sweet. My friend is a film student at SVA in nyc, and we have been using a wheel chair and some tie downs as a dolly for his shoots. Works great. ;)

                    i liked it, great work on it man. the only thing i did not like was the intros music with the screaming constantly. it gave me a vibe of a corny slasher movie type thing. but looked good man.

                        Yeah, ridiculously corny, cool intro, but it's not necessarily a good thing when the intro is the distant highlight of the entire film. It's like songs whose intros are awesome then it turns out to be some screamo bullshit--really kills it.

                          For the assignment I had to utilize free use music, and due to my mid editing decision deciding to not make the car accident NOT an 'accident', it was the best I could find to convey that.

                          Thanks everyone for the input, this is super helpful!! Despite it's rough edges, the film helped me get invited to a team for this summer's local 48 Hour Film festival (as the editor, possibly more)! So, any and all input will help me next time around :p

                            Honestly seemed like you made the intro to fit the music and it was a bit overly stylized for my tastes. Nevertheless the into was dramatic and thought provoking, albeit a bit exaggerated.
                            Content in the film itself was awkward. Dialog was really unique! I loved that "for all you know I could be an Ambercombie model! No I'm not but..!" The character interaction instantly places the viewer in that "Awkward OMG what did I just walk in on?" kind of position witnessing a scene I'm sure some of us can relate too being on the giving or receiving end of a break up.

                            And how does the content relate to the title? "cougar hunter"? I was kinda waiting for the twist of the cougar being the hunter and stalking the young kid. I mean you can't really tell who the psycho is in the intro. For all we know those we a woman's hand and arms.

                            Ending = Sooo Much WIN its not even Funny! Fuckin HYSTERICAL! I fuckin LOL'd for like two minutes! Grind-house stylie' FTW! Good job! Would like to see it come back together a bit though.

                            Intro: B+ (Effects and light use A+++, Continuity with subject/script: C )
                            Content: A+
                            Contextual subject matter w/ Title: Fail
                            Script/Dialog: A+
                            Acting: Solid B (accent was a bit harsh for me but good/different actually)
                            Special Effects: A
                            Climax: A++++++ (WOOT!!!)
                            Asking for our 2 Cents: Priceless!

                              The intro really was great. I was hoping that it set the tone for the rest of the film, but it really did not at all. It is generally better to be pleasantly surprised than to be sorely disappointed--if you could have put the effort and attention to detail that was put into the intro into the film instead (or, hell, just harnessed the energy in the intro and kept it going), it would have been much better. Even with a mediocre intro.
