    - Nest the film effect *inside the letterbox effect. It looks weird to see the frame edge shake and blur. I doubt that you were really going for that effect.
    - The aspect ratio is all messed up. You shot 16:9 but letter-boxed for more than that so everything looked squashed.
    - If you didn't cross the 180, you came too close to it. I did like the over the shoulder shots though. NEVER CROSS THE 180!
    - Shutter speed was kind high when she got out of the car -image strobe'd quite a bit.
    - Like the car crash! Good work!
    - Editing looked great!

So what are you going to do when you leave school?

Just watched it again. The conversation and rest of the film was actually pretty funny, but the intro, the intro song and title belied the actual nature of the film. That coupled with the guy's thick accent and corny acting was enough to be discourage me from enjoying it on the first (and probably second) watchthrough. There was some enjoyable stuff on there though ("I don't remember puking on Jenny Johnson last night, but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it" was awesome)

Gearge, thanks for all the helpful comments!

            - I'm still a newb when t comes to setting up the aspect ratio, any and all info concerning this is uber helpful.
-I actually did cross the 180 :(, and the footage you are seeing is flipped to make up for it. All the shots of the asian dude are flipped. I filmed the whole thing solo (despite the credits, I added those to help the guys in my 'group' for credit. I wasn't able to help on their films, but we gave each other credit just for the class). Not an excuse for a BIG mistake, but I had to make due with the footage I had.
-Per the instructors request, I sped the whole main feature up 12%. This is probably why it looks funny, especially in the beginning. It did help the pace of the convo though (I think).
-The car crash was actually pretty easy to make in After Effects, and I really enjoy editing. I'm getting better after each project I do. If it wasn't for the web, I'd be lost when using these editing suites (Final Cut Studio, AE, etc.)

As far as after school, I have no idea what I'm going to do to be honest. I was thinking of getting up with someone established, and doing what I can to learn and get more experience under my belt. I also want to start a small production company devoted to creating content exclusively for the web. Short vids for small businesses, weddings, real estate, etc. I take it you do this type of stuff professionally (or just super informed ;)). Do you have any advice?? Need any extra help?

I really appreciate you watching it a few times, and I'm glad you like the conversation. The guy's accent is really thick, and when he auditioned, it he had me cracking up (most likely because I already knew the lines), but it didn't quite translate.

You know it, I love sharing and getting feedback. And to be honest car forums are the best (especially BMW), everyone is a critic haha. I'll deff be posting more work.

The music is by Bacalao, and the song is called Concerto no.1 pour clavecin. I found them on freemusicarchive.org, free to download and use whatever as long as you give credit to the artist (which I did in the credits).

Here's the link to there stuff: http://freemusicarchive.org/search/?quicksearch=Bacalao

That's an awesome idea! Good for you.

That's the WORST idea ever - I'm going to stab you in the face with my soldering iron.

Small businesses stuff is fine - good clean works, but the smaller the business the smaller the budget, and the more hand holding they need. It gets to the point where it stops being fun.

Weddings are the absolute bottom of the barrel of video productions.. There's some money to be had there, but you'll be so busy doing one weeding a month that it's all you'll be able to do for like 2 weeks and you'll never have a change to improve yourself. You'll work 3 times as hard and as long for the same pay - fuck weddings. I got dragged into that shit. I was working with a guy shooting a wedding one time - and he said to me "I can always tell when I'm fucking up in life cause I end up at one of these wedding gigs" - we both felt the same way. I may end up shooting/editing another some day - god they suck - only do it if you can't pay the rent that month. It's one step above blowing a guy for cash - or so I've been told.

Real estate? Sure if you want to meet the biggest ass clowns you've ever talked to. They are also the cheapest bastards you've ever seen. They'll make a 90 year old Jewish woman look like a high roller. Real estate agents don't "get it". All they know is what they have been doing for years. Take a look at their web site - they'll be tiny postage size images of a house - not walk through videos - nothing. They just aren't keeping up with the times. They won't pay for shit, cause they don't see any value in it. They have their head so far up their ass that they think they are the only one that matters. That must be why they can't put an ad in the paper with out their stupid head shot next to it. Who else does that? Idiots...

Get a job at the biggest most expensive video and film production place in town. Work there for a year or two. Stay late after every one leaves and edit your own projects. They'll have a older or crappy camera you can borrow to shoot your own stuff. Become a sponge. You'll learn a lot. You only know about 10% of what you need to know. I don't even recommend people go to school for this stuff - it's all things you can learn on your own, or on the job. Try and get on some film shoots. Let everyone around you know that you might bug them with questions - and do it - all the time - all day long.

Oh, and watch Film Riot every week. ;)

              Hope that helps.
