I'm going to add reefsanctuary.com
The biggest mistake made on peoples first tank is from their lack of research.
If you are going to start your first tank, you need to dedicate some time for it as well as a good chunk of change because setting up a tank isn't cheap.
That being said, a reef vase, pico reef vase, etc I think is the best for someone who has never had a reef tank before. They can be set up for under $100 and are fairly easy to take care of. They're almost self sufficient after a few months. Having one will help you understand the basics of a reef tank. Since it's so small, you can see the effects of your actions almost immediately. It's really helpful in troubleshooting problems when you first start.
I found some pics of my reef vase from when it was about a month and a half. Note, I'm no photographer. ;)
Pepé, the sexy shrimp
When this vase was 3 months old, I gave it to my parents to care for. They managed to care for it (neglectfully I'll add) and it still survived and was even covered in coraline by the 6th month mark. When I moved back down to Corpus, I had just brought it in from the car. My cat got curious and knocked it over onto the floor when I went to get more stuff out of the car. I managed to save almost everything that was in the vase, but I had no other SW tank, so I had to give them to my LFS.
I plan on setting up another one soon. I miss all my tanks. :(
