    Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park photo's

Here are some of my photo's from my trip there last week. What an amazing place! These are photo's from either my Canon Rebel XT or my Canon G9, untouched.

    Tree Sack!

These are from last Thursday, my friend and I decided to hike to the top of Mauna Loa, the world's largest active shield volcano. It stands 13,679ft tall at the summit. We did this on 3 hours of sleep and our elevation was roughly 4,000ft above sea level. This hike kicked our a$@, it was still strangely beautiful and the quietest place I've ever been in my life. We didn't see another soul the whole day.

    At the summit:

Well that's it, if you're interested in seeing the entire set please check out my Flickr page:

Nice, the wife and I are heading back there in 5 weeks, we're doing 6 days on the island and then a 7 day liveaboard dive trip around the main island.

I'm glad to see there is still an open lava vent, we missed getting there last time we were on the big island. How far of a hike was it to get to it right now?

So the summit of Mauna Loa doesn't have any snow?
Here's my trek from across the road.

I'm with you--Mauna Kea was one of the strangest places I've ever been.

Have a great trip! The crater that I posted is actually RIGHT off the road, it's been dormant for 28 years and decided to go active a day or so after I arrived, I wish I had a better zoom lens. Definitely check it out, quite amazing!

This is one of the best places I have visited. Thanks for sharing.

BTW, I think I have a pic of me somewhere where I am at the bottom of this crater.

Soooo easy to take nice pics in Hawaii. Everywhere you look is something beautiful to photograph. I spent two weeks on Maui and Kauai with the wife and kids a couple summers back. I literally took 1500 pics in those two weeks. The trip was expensive as fuxk, but so far the best trip in our lives. We did everything from ATV tours, multiple snorkeling trips, luaus, helicopter rides, bike tour down Haleakala in Maui, etc. Trip was totally amazing. My kids had a great time too.

Everyone needs to visit Hawaii at least once in their lives.

There was some new activity when I was leaving, check the USGS site and the park site to keep tabs on it, post your pics when you get back!
