Now I'd love a Red One. But I don't have 20k to spend.

Can anyone offer some insight or perhaps a site that lists the best cameras for the money?

Say maybe at a few different price points and if it's really worth spending the extra $. I'd like to know the best cameras for the money.

Maybe less than $450. Less than $600. Less than $1000.00?


I've been looking on amazon but I don't know the HD Video camera market.

Take a look at the canon ones. Also make sure it will work with your computer. I had gotten some jvc hdd one and filmed a summers worth of bike video, went to put it on my computer and it wasnt compatible.

What do you plan on recording? I ask because I was looking for HD cameras to mount on a car for autocross and track days. This seemed like a really great bang for the buck for what they're meant to be used for: GoPro_Camera

I'm not really looking for a motor sports / action camera although the GoPro is nice and seems like a real bargain.

i recently bought a pentax k-x. i got it for like 486 after shipping and everything online. its a dslr but has shoots 720p hd video at 24fps. and it can use any 35mm pentax lens which is awesome cuz you can get cheap ones on craigslist.

It really depends on what you're looking to record. I've really become a fan of the DSLR crossover cameras that can shoot HD video as well.

The Canon 5D Mark II is a little more than you're looking to spend, but it's worth looking into. If you want to stay under 1k, look at the Canon T2i.

I'm looking for something some what budget that records good to great HD video in all conditions. The most bang for the buck is what I'm looking for. Something I can use for all sorts of things such as teaser shorts, advertising products, music videos, live shows, and such. I know I could spend thousands but I'd love to get something under $1000 or even $500 that still will get the job done.

I'm not too picky but I don't really want a crossover DSLR as that's going to be more than what I want to spend and more than what I need. I have a D60, and as much as I wish it was a D90 I'm not going to be spending that much anytime soon.

The there is the topic of Flash vs HDD, I know flash is a never worry if the camera falls sort of thing but I'm not too concerned with that.

Another thing you may want to look into is the format that these cameras record to. If you plan on editing the footage, your just going to want to make sure that the camera you buy records to a file that you can work with. From my past experiences, these HD consumer cameras seem to create files that need to be converted before editing. There are plenty of file converters out there, but it always is a hassle and most are not lossless conversions.

Out of those I'd say the HFS20 is worth it, can record in 24p mode.(real cinema recording)

or if you want a smaller flash cam then the Sony CX350 is a beast.

those 2 are worth the price for sure.

If you were to come up to west coast Canada I'd give you a discount. Buut since you don't have Future Shop in the states there's not much I can do!
