Without pis of GF, its hard to determine...
But I will say this- I drove a regular Mazda3 on Laguna Seca last year for a few laps- it was totally stock. Definitely not a bad little ride- I'd probably go with that.
As for the Buffalo-FWD thing, I grew up in Utica- snow tires are you're good to go- but you already know that. I never got stuck with snows. Never.E30 M52B28Comment

Reconsider the Jetta. Get a CPO one, newer than 07 if you can.
Or even a GTI, they're damn nice cars. It doesn't matter what manufacturer you go with, sometimes there are unlucky souls who end up with a lemon. VW has come leaps and bounds since the MKIV days.Comment

I have an 07 Jetta 2.5 for a DD, the only issue I ever had was a coil pack went out under warranty.
The only thing that I have found that sucks is the car is super rear brake bias. I have gone through 2 sets of rear pads and rotors (I don't turn them) and I'm still on the original fronts. I commuted the piss out of that car though, IIRC I'm somewhere around 80k on the clock.Rollin' with a GeistkuchenComment
