    V20, 106L, 4000 Horsepower, MAX SPEED:

A whopping 42 mph. I work as a painter for a construction company and I just finished painting the famous CAT 797. This thing is the most impressive feat of engineering I have ever seen. It can haul 400 tons, and tires for this thing are around $50 000, while the truck its self costs around $5 mill.

They charged the client $38000 for the paintjob, too bad I don't make commission. :(

Anyways, here's some pics and a couple videos!

then it would look like a Terx

The 797 is the largest purely mechanically driven truck on the planet. the bigger haulers are all Diesel over electric. IE. Huge diesel powered Genny with each wheel drive independently by electric motors and huge planetary gear sets

Why would they have you guys paint it, its just gonna get all back and tar covered when it goes back up the sands. Or is this one going to the diamond mines ????

To be honest I'm not sure why we painted it...It had a huge overhall done, and I guess most clients like them looking fresh when we ship them back, and $38k is pocket change to these oil companies. It was pretty scratched up, but your right, these things get absolutely COVERED in shit...so there's not really a point, other than rust prevention I guess.

If you could paint your car for less than the cost of a single tire, you'd do it every so often too.

with oil at 72 bucks a barrel.
That truck will haul enough to product to pay for that paint job 2 times over on its very 1st load on is very 1st trip. In other words the paint wont even be worn outta the dump body by the time the paint is paid for.

Thats if I am remembering my production cost and recoverability numbers right. Of 4.2 barrels of oil per ton of oil sands ore, and a production cost of 28-30bucks a barrel of oil.

All 797 rebuilds are like they came from the factory. Rebuilds usually hover around 300k, I did a spreadsheet and screwed up one row and jacked the price up by 40k, they weren't happy.

Yeah oil is a fucking retardedly profitable business. The money these companies have is absolutely outstanding. Our company just bought 5000 brand new F-350's to use as field trucks. One has already been totaled (some moron rolled it) and replaced, and they don't even flinch. It's unbelievable.

Yeah, the box was off, and the outer tires were off, but I still don't know how they did it, it fit in the paint bay though...barely. I had like 6 feet on either side.
