I worked for a restaurant. Came to work one day and the store was out of business. Owner never even called me to not show up AND stiffed me for my last weeks pay $300. I have no real recourse except to bother him until he pays me. I want the forum to call this cocksucker 24 hours a day and leave a message to "Just Pay Jeff". His cell number #561-901-5461 At the very least I want to bug him until he changes his phone #.

If it makes you feel better I "have a really good friend" who works for a company that owes him about $8,000.00 after taxes, or the equivalent of about twelve weeks of work. The company is trying to catch up but if they go bankrupt my "friend" and his coworkers stand to loose a lot more than $300.00.

All that being said, I think what happened to you is fucked. Especially since the owner didn't have the courtesy to at least notify you. I say harass the shit out of him.

In this economy it is not uncommon for a bank to walk in the door & take the keys. Your boss may have been a complete idiot or might be completely helpless now & out literally 1000x more than you are. I'm sure he's not in any position to pay you back since his assets are probably siezed. Don't get me wrong-- I feel for you. But in the grand scheme of things you aren't out that much. I hope you get what you're due.
