semi-related story:

I used to teach Cub Scouts, and we were doing "Citizenship in The World" or something, and one of the other leaders had done a few years in Africa. (see where this is going?)

So we asked each of them to go to the map, and pick a country in Africa to do a report on. These kids are 8-11 y.o., so still relatively malleable.

OF COURSE, I ask one kid,
me: Which country did you pick?
kid: ******
me: (quailing inside, but totally straight face, natural mistake, no big deal)
No, it's pronounced N-eye-ger.
kid: oh, okay. Niger.

(sigh) Kids.
