Anyone know how to find a previously owned car?

My friend is trying to find his dad's 72 Skylark. I guess as like a birthday present for his dad, I dunno. He's got a VIN and says it was last registered to him in North Dakota in 82.

I've never tried to find a car before so any of you guys know where to start?

If it has not been registered in that long, it's prolly become scrap. I'd look for a different car with the same color/option package.

P.S. - Papa John found his Camaro, so it is possible.

I'd start with a carfax report......to see if it's still alive. (or at least the most current info on it)..and maybe where it was last registered.

Is there a way to get a free Carfax report?
