Anyone own a Mac?

I just bought a 8 month old Macbook OS X. For some reason it is not reading that it has a battery. Should I just take it to the local Apple store and have them fix it? I know my friend bought a new battery for it because it had this same problem before.

But seriously yes I do. I have a macbook i bought new 4 years ago. I want to replace it with a new Macbook Pro soon. I love my macs for simple home computing, but I would never touch them at work.

The apple stores are very hit or miss. The one in my area sucks major dick, and breaks more things than they fix. I sent mine in to apple and got great customer service. They sent me a box overnight, I mailed it and got it back in a day or two. They fixed the issue I had(not battery related) and gave me a new battery for no charge because they tested mine and it sucked. I was out of warranty for 2 years already too. So in my experience sending it in is a better choice if you can live without it for a couple days.

You can try the following:

(If your battery is removable)
1. Shut down the computer.
2. Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
3. Remove the battery.
4. Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
5. Release the power button.
6. Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
7. Press the power button to turn on the computer.
8. (Most important) Cross your fingers and see if your battery is recognized.

(If your battery is not removable)
1. Shut down the computer.
2. Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
3. On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
4. Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
5. Press the power button to turn on the computer.
6. (Most important) Cross your fingers and see if your battery is recognized.

No problem. Sounds like a hardware problem. The procedure you just did reset the power manager. If there was some corruption in these settings, this would have cleared things out. Could have been an easy fix, if it wasn't actually a hardware issue...

I keed I keed. Lots of Mac users here. Hell, Im Microsoft certified and I have a Mac at home. Its so I can stop thinking when I use a computer after a long hard throbbing day at the office. Really I only use it for porn.
