Early Bday gift to myself! :)

Well tomorrow I turn 24 and decided to treat myself to an early gift! Traded my Springfield XD .40 cal compact and some cash for a 1981 Yamaha XJ 650 "Bobber".
Rebuilt motor and 17k on the frame. Converted to Hardtail with a 98 Triumph gas tank. So excited! :D











In other news, I sold my keskin wheels and have a new wheel being manufactured right now... but you guys will have to wait a couple months before they're done. Race setup this time instead.. ;)

I've been dying to get a bobber for a few years now so I feel ya. they're increasing in popularity and demand. Such high demand that HD is coming out with a "Bobber" style bike that is supposed to hit production in 2011. I paid a little over 2k for this one but they can be had for as cheap as $400 or as high as 10k. I got a steal on this one. with the amount of work put into it, I could easily turn it for a 1500 profit. just be patient and you'll find one. took me 2 years to find one priced right AND local.

i'm loving the bobber/cafe racer revival that's coming with the low prices on small displacement import bikes these days. my roommate rides a '74 honda cb360 that's begging for some work.

I'm looking at a few bikes for a cheap cafe racer project this winter. Also, found a real nice buell blast, kinda looks like it might be fun. I have no interest on riding a bike with more displacement than a Geo Metro, but the small things sure look fun.

My stepbrother was talking me into a 2000 cbr-600 for 3k. decent condition... had some miles on but I wasn't worried about that since my buddy works at Dreyer & Reinbold Honda. He has one as well(except 2002). After riding his, I decided no-go immediately. I knew I would kill myself on it. This bike may be older, but I only pay an extra $20 a month on insurance, plates are $35 and parts are DIRT cheap. Plus it's carbed and a breeze to maintain. the cbr was just all around too much for me. I've tried out the GSX-R 600 as well. Same story. just come down to what you really want out the bike. best of luck man and remember to wear a brain bucket if you find one!

Wow that bike is killer! I am taking the MSF course next weekend and will then have my M class license. I am hoping to get a 500 or so cc sport/naked bike to ride around.
