Local Fire Chief Under Fire

Read this in my town's paper. Had to share.
Funny part is, my E30's original owner was the Alameda Fire Chief.

SAN FRANCISCO—Firefighters unhappy over budget cuts and recent layoffs have sent Alameda Mayor Beverly Johnson photographs of the fire chief gassing up his vehicles at a city pump. The San Francisco Chronicle reported Wednesday that the mayor has called vacationing fire Chief David Kapler in for an explanation.
It's unclear when the mayor will meet with her $196,000-a-year chief.
The Chronicle says Kapler has been getting unlimited free fill-ups at city pumps for his personal BMW sports car decked out with sirens and flashers.
Kapler says the free gas is part of the deal he cut with then-City Manager Debra Kurita when he signed on as chief in 2007.

If its in his contract then the mayor is a fault for this not the chief, hes just using one of benefits that come as terms of his employment, whats the big deal???? Your tax dollars at work

Also what if he was putting fuel in his Car after using it for county business. Like travel to a conference or meeting or similar, and was getting his fuel back???

there is a host of actual legitimate reasons for this, but yes it looks bad, with out the context attached to it.

Agreed. He lives pretty close to our house, and I see occasionally see him driving by. I mean, everyone see's him using the cars personally, so that's probably why people are pissed. [in addition to the Bimmer, and Ridgeline he owns with lights], the city just replace his old GMC Suburban with a brand new Red Expedition. Pretty sweet job, if may say.
