The fiat is going to be a special project, planning on doing it for the GRM $2011 challange. My requirements is that the engine is behind the rear axle (so it needs to be really light, and small) and I want reverse, which is going to be tricky.

I need to find someone that knows either yamaha or honda quads and bikes inside and out. If at all possible I want to use the reverse gear out of a quad trans in a bike trans...

The mounts on this one are stock rubber bits so it moves a little... My personal m42 2002 has poly mounts and doesn't move a bit. The rubber should make it nice and smooth tho

A couple videos of driving it before it goes home... I should have done some a little longer and going through a couple more gears but....it was wet and traction was limited. More so because of the tires.

That's a very nice combo you have there. I can imagine how much fun it is to drive the 2002 with that engine. I admit I love S14 02's (who doesn't..) but the beauty of the M42 is it's cost effectiveness-- like Blunt said. I bet the [marginal] power increase over the M10 makes a big difference in that chassis as well.

I'm always surprised at how few m42 swapped 2002s I see. It seems like a great motor for that car; keep the lighweight, rev-happy motor but get lots of extra power with no weight penalty (like the m20 swap). Why isn't it more popular?

I have a 91 318is rust bucket with a great motor sitting at home right now, and a 2002 for sale with no engine roughly an hour north of me...

It isn't more popular because everyone thought it was hard.....years ago someone did the swap and posted about it and said they would never try it again.

I gave it a shot and figure out the needed parts and it really is a fairly easy swap.

With that said I am selling mounts if anyone is interested.....

$250 for a set of mounts (engine and trans) and $150 for a modified m50 turbo exhaust manifold that will work with the swap.

That thing pulls in 2nd like mine does in 4th.

m20 is only 38lb heavier then the m10, and with no power steering pump, and air con compressor on it it is even lighter. Then run some headers and get rid of the cast iron stock headers to loos some more weight. you also need to cut into the front of the car to make some room so there goes a tad bit more weight. you also move the battery to the back of the car to move some weight around.
i should weigh my car before and after m20 swap and see what the difference is.
                            m42 is 220lb, and an m20 is 258lb. thats a difference of 38lb.
                            on a good day the m42 makes 142bhp and the 2.5i m20 makes 170bhp. thats a difference of 28bhp.
the m20 has a lot more performance parts being made fore it then the m42. it is much easier to get high hp numbers out of it: if that is what you are looking for.
