Another matter that might prove to be a more legitimate deterrent: I could swear one of my co-workers was saying something about leaky head gaskets and about having to partially pull the engine from his stepdaughter's Forester in order to install new spark plugs.
Yes, to do plugs you have to unbolt on motor mount and jack the engine up a bit to gain clearance.

My mom drives an 02 Forester, my dad an 03 Outback. I swear the interior space is nearly identical but the Outback is a much nicer car to drive. Quieter, smoother, better interior quality. Things have changed obviously, both cars are now 2 gens ahead. But take both out for a test drive before buying, see which you like more.

I've worked on a stupid amount of turbo Subarus now and the only one we had to jack a motor up to do the plugs on was a EZ30R 3.0 flat six.

I've got a 95 Legacy, which is still the best and most dependable car I've ever owned.

Yes, foresters seem to be driven mostly by lesbians. Unfair stereotype, as they're not bad cars. Legacies are better though; more passenger and cargo room in the earlier model generations, not so much now.

Iain, I remember we talked about EZ30R swaps. My car's all of four months from having one running, I just have to wait till winter when I'll have time to do it.

I have been wanting a turbo forester for quite some time now. I drove an 04 with a 5 speed and it was so awesome.

I see why you would want one. I have been thinking of a replacement for my Passat wagon and would like to have all wheel drive. Most wagons have a slanted rear hatch. This equals less cargo room. We have two golden retrievers that do not seem to fit in the back of most wagons. Have thought about Audi allroads - Seems extremely expensive to maintain. Plus they drive really shitty. Hate to say it, but might end up getting a Tahoe/Denali, or some form of SUV.

The best part about the forester is that it is still a car. It has great cargo capacity and easy go fast capability.

thats pretty much why im looking at it, it seems to be the car with the most fun AND the most practicality.
