    Need help with my lawn

Ok so Ive taken it upon myself to fix my lawn. Its partially dead (spots where its burned to death), full of thatch, large dandelion plants throughout, but there is spots of new grass growing through and in fact I have this small area with thick green grass that has taken root. Basically a big mess the landlord doesnt care about but I think it looks like shit. I can get seed, fertilizer with weed control and a spreader all for around 70 that will cover my lawn. Here are my questions:

Do I fertilize first to kill the weeds and fortify the existing grass then spread my new grass seed? And do I want to use fledgling fertilizer or scotts winterguard right off? Another thing is he uses chemlawn in the spring. Is that pretty much gone by now or will it mix bad with my fertilizer Im going to use?

I notice chemlawn is like miracle for grass, but the grass that wasnt treated lasted longer in the heat. Anywho any 2 cents would be appreciated.

Rent a power thatcher. it will remove the dead grass that has setteled on the dirt and also open up the soil a bit so the seeds can get nito the dirt better. but dotn put the cutter blades down too far or it will rip up everything. rake up the dead grass. then put down seed. after that gets going, you can put down some fertilizer/weed killer. becarefull not to put down too much or it will destroy your grass. and also the weed killer can hurt plants/trees so be careful about that. water often, and re seed every other month or so and you should have a good lawn. however it is best to start this kind of thing in the early spring, so it has all spring/ summer to grow.

Use a weed killer now, then fertilize, de-thatch and then seed before fall.

I've got a buddy that owns a lawn care business and we've been trying to get my yard under control all year. Next it will get a pre-emergent (forgot to this year).

I'm also going to have him spray it with a growth modulator next spring. Instead of mowing every 4-5 days, I'll only mow every 15-18 days and it keeps the yard green.

Not sure exactly, but basically it makes the lawn grow 1/3 its normal rate.

I vote for putting down asphault and painting it green, personally. I rarely would mow my yard in the summer, so that it would stay green with minimal watering.

Want to borrow my spreader? I have one, I had grubs and moles this year along with cheap seed came clover.

Agway tends to sell good stuff avoid the box.

Get a thatcher blade for your mower, they don't cost all that much and do a ok job.
