    they are neat cars though.

look at the nose, it sticks out past the bumper and 99% of them have been punched there.

the battery aits in the engine compartment and that section is usually rusted.

because of the fender skirts, you are limited on your wheel choices with out doing body work.

VW does not mean reliable as a daily driver. be prepaired to work on it a lot. it is the nature of owning a car that old, much less some one else's project.

electrical gremlins are still there, just a less complicated wiring system to find them in.

since you are young you will be more likely to put up with the quirks though.

    no A/C kind of sucks.

i owned a 63 for a little while that i bought off of my friend. take a really serious look at the car and what it will take to get it running reliably before you go condeming your E30.
When I'm wealthy, you're going to build me a 4 door VW van with the tray out back, and safari windows. It will have an aircooled 993 engine and be on bags. Do you accept? Also, do you understand?

I don't really care, I'll just cut the cheques. But you understand what I mean? I want I big square front with the tray out back.

over here we call the 2 doors single cabs
and the 4 doors double cabs or crew cabs.
          split windshield safari "pop-out" widshields.

993 3.2 motor, the last of the air cooled "911" motor.

the a-arm conversion has already been done with a complete doner car to graft from, although IIRC, it was a 996 TT motor with a combi.

I'd love to work with you in the future Ray, you're a swell guy.

There's a pic of what I want in the VW thread, but I want it to throw sparks and blow the doors off boy racers at the same time.

oh i know what you are talking about.
big motored crew cab, in the weeds on air bags, maybe with the tarp bed cover so it is more stealthy (think of a canvas cover on a stake bead lorry)17X10 5 spoke 996 TT rims in the back (narrowed rear end so it all fits behind the stock side panels) 17X8 up front.

I just got an erection. It's perfect. What colour you think?

Possibly with "switches get bitches" stickers?

i really like GULF BLUE plain, understated common colour on the industrial buses (single/double/panel)

there is also a plain med green that looks good too.

single colour, no white "V" on the front and belt line, no polished trim, white VW emblem.

                  i like the sleeper look.

satin or semi gloss black rims or the stock silver, maybe even polished , but not chrome.
                      black alcantara head liner.

recaro black alcantara seats maybe orange piping.
matching rear bench and door panels.
                      understated...........

most rabbits are beat to crap now.

MKII are nicer, ride and handle better out of the box, shit tons of used aftermarket parts, make more power stock, engine swaps are easier into them.
                        still cheap to pick up.

swap a tall block 2.0 into a GLI/GTI, hortech/autotech cam swap, TT cat back, euro down pipe. you are good to go. urathane suspension bushings, neuspeed strut tie bars/sways, bilstein struts and coil over kits, nice 16" wheels, and a set of recaros, you have a nice sorted out daily that is quick and reliable.

Yeah. That is controlled rust in that picture.

Anyways I took a closer look today. A wee bit of rust in the boot. Also one door panel is missing so I can see in there. The whole inside face of the door had rust bubbles.
