Diesels have longer intervals for oil changes. Also depends on how much you will be driving this bus as well. I have driven semis for over 15 years and I own 2 diesel pickups. I usually go 5-7K on oil change for my pickups and 20-25k for the big trucks. Use Shell Rotella-T 15W-40 by the gallon. Big diesels can use as much as 15 gallons! My pickups use about 3 gallons. As long as the bus is registered as a motor home/for personal use than no CDL is required. If you are going to be transporting people than that is a different story. Like all these guys were saying, keep up on the grease and normal services and the diesels will run forever. GL!!

I'm very worried about the whole insurance issue...

The mechanical info has been very helpful, and if for nothing else I feel like I've learned a lot.

Insurance, registration & bi-annual state inspections will probably be the deal-killer.
