    new HDTVs... what to get?

I'm looking at new HDTVs to replace an old 36" tube tv that is dying. I can't physically fit anything bigger than a 42" to replace it... and that is pushing it.

I'm looking at the LG 42LD550 right now...

Anyone up to date on the latest technology?

Opinions? What else should I consider?

it is kind of hard to get a terrible TV these days. I'd check around on review sites, but basically samsung, sony, panasonic, toshiba, LG, Sharp, and even Vizio, in no particular order, make TVs that will suit your needs quite well.

now you have to decide whether you want 3D, internet connectivity, built in netflix, facebook, etc.

according to an A/V guy at my last work Samsung is currently the "best" brand while others may have certain features over them, Samsung has very few problems with their new tvs.

Don't quote me this is just what he told me.

while there are alot of good TV's on the market just make sure it's at least 120hz. 240hs is a bit overkill.

i personally buy SONY. the have the best picture IMO

              Can't go wrong with a 1080p Sony.

I like Samsung as well, haven't had a single problem with my 1080p DLP in the last 4 years, although I think the bulb will need to be replaced soon, but I've already purchased it.

My buddy bought a 3D Capapble Mitsubishi DLP at the end of last year.

82" of pure awesomeness in his living room.

Had a Sony, replaced it with a samsung. my house is now exclusively samsung flat panels.

The sad part is the whole point of the sony TV was the integration with the sony tuner and PS3 for controls and the shit NEVER WORKED. The Samsung actually does control my tuners volume, go fig.

I love the new Samsungs we got because they are the 6/8series and they have integrated media players to go along with the awesome panels. The media players will play MKVs natively without breaking a sweat so I can download the HD top gears and play them on my TV through a wifi share or flash drive.
                      Im now E30less.

                        Samsung

Even their cell phone screens are really nice. All their electronics are getting pretty good, been buying less and less Sony over the years.

I've had my 32" Vizio for like 4 years now, and I've never had a problem with it.

I'll be probably one of the few voting for panasonic pro plasmas, one of the best displays out there by far, check out avsforums, tons of info. Best place to buy them is at visualapex.com

I bought my 37'' lg hdtv about 3 years ago. I love every minute of it. The only reason i got it over a samsung was the price. Both samsung and lg make great tvs from what ive seen.
