Stood at the light with one of these yesterday. Really slick looking vehicle. I remember seeing one up close and the driver's chair would actually rotate to make embarking easier. Pretty fancy.Comment

Update:
I had some issues getting the correct carb kit, I finally got the right one today. Just got it all rebuilt and put back on the car. It was a quazi-win
It "runs" now, but poorly. No more leaking gas though! The choke isn't set right, since I didn't realize how it came apart I didn't mark it. The dashpot is broken, but I don't know how big of a running issue that is for now. Also upon re-assembly a plastic fitting that threads on a rod for the choke broke preventing the choke plate from opening correctly.
I didn't put the ignition parts in yet, I need to track down a dwell meter to do so. But when it does run, it shakes and sounds like it's running on 3 cyl max...
Not to mention the 2 year old gas in the tank...
Next step is to order more parts to fix the choke on it now. Drain the gas, put fresh stuff in, and see where I can go from there. I'm probably going to wait for my father to come help me out just because he knows a lot more about points and carbs than I do, he will make the work a lot quicker.
Kind of a funny side story. I was working on the car in the garage (this is an apartment complex) and I hear someone walk into the garage and INSTANTLY start bitching about how "the hood of that car has been open for ever, are they ever going to do something with it?" and just going on and on and bitching about the hood being open. I guess the lady didn't see me working on it, but her husband did after her rant. After that they came up and just talked to me for a while, and her attitude was completely different haha. I figured I would book it after I fired it up and filled the whole garage up with smoke and smog from the exhaust.
Will post pics later tonight, I'm being called to put rear control arms in a saab for the rest of my night.Rollin' with a GeistkuchenComment

Like 55's? My buddy restored this one last summer, these are before pics:

Car ended up being the biggest nightmare piece of shit I have ever worked on. It looked nice before we dug into it, but that thing was a cobbled piece of shit. There had to be a solid 20 lbs of bondo on the body, and every screw was fucking different. I've never seen so many wood screws holding a car together before.
I have no after pics, fuck that car...Rollin' with a GeistkuchenComment

I think I'm good on parts for now, I nearly have it running.
Turns out I had the choke linkage installed incorrectly, it was binding against the carb body so it wouldn't work. I took the carb out and corrected everything, set the choke, and put it back on. Fired right up and ran smooth, just wouldn't idle. I shut it down and adjusted the choke again to try and richen it up, after that though I can't get it to run anymore...
It still seems that the linkage is binding when I try to adjust it, but when I pull it apart a bit everything moves freely. Does anyone know if there's a special way you have to set hot air chokes? I can set it where it should be, and sometimes adjusting it will move the choke plate, and sometimes it won't move at all....
I didn't touch the mixture adjustments, and it was running just fine before I messed with the choke again, so I'm still thinking I have a choke problem. The only 2 ways I can get it to run is either really poorly like it's goin on 2 cyl and shooting black smoke out the tail pipe, or I have to keep it at WOT to get enough gas to almost make it idle at like 400rpm... I can't seem to get to any middle ground again.Rollin' with a GeistkuchenComment

Yeah they work damn good, I didn't use the correct cleaner though which makes a HUGE difference. It probably would have worked awesome if I used carb cleaner, but I use that ultrasonic cleaner for electronics so I didn't want to dump carb cleaner in it. It helped a lot, but it could be a lot better.
That's how it should work.Rollin' with a GeistkuchenComment

FINALLY got it going. 3rd time the charm for tearing the carb down. What happened was I forgot to put the economizer washer/gasket in. Without that in all the fuel from the primary chamber would just leak down into the intake, dumping all the gas in at once.
So I put that in, did all the adjustments, put it back in the car, and she fired up and ran idled smooth.
When I was trying to figure it out, I dumped some gas into the primary chamber to see what was going on (it was bone dry when I took the cover off) the gas I grabbed ended up being mixed with some 2 cycle engine oil... Video will show what happened. I shut it down after I got it going because I already set off the Carbon Monoxide detectors off in the garage and got people upset.
Tomorrow should be a nice day, so I'm going to take it for a drive and do the rest of the maintenance.
Video should be up shortly

I've been driving it for a few days now without too much issue. Carb needs to be tuned still, it's running pretty rich. Drove it maybe 100 miles tops, used almost a half tank of gas...
I know my grandfather always complained about the brakes on the car. From what I remember he said it was hard to stop and that the brakes were never consistent feeling. I guess I have no idea what he was talking about because the brakes on this car are AWESOME. When I first got in the car I expected the brakes to feel like I was going to try and stop a bus, the first few stops I damn near skid to a stop. When you hit the brakes the car is going to stop, and it's going to stop right fucking now. I'm honestly pretty blown away how good they are, wouldn't expect that at all from a mid-sixties tank.
The cap, rotor, and points all look pretty damn new, I can't see any corrosion or wear on them what so ever. However I think the plugs need to be changed, every now and again it wants to diesel when you turn it off. Also the coil is putting out a spark equivalent looking to a disposable bic lighter.
I think I might get more adventurous this winter with the car. The steering linkage is worn but not horrible, I think if I put new bushings and tie rod ends on it should tighten it up a bit. Also I'm trying to decide if the rear leaf springs are shot. The car has an interesting rake, front end is noticeably higher up than the rear. The rear leaf springs when the car is on the ground are pretty much straight parallel to the ground, no bend in them to speak of really. I guess after 44 years of being on the car I wouldn't be surprised if they are a little worn.
My buddy is the manager at Mobil which has a huge carwash and detail bay. We are going to highjack the detail bay monday and clean this baby up. Pics to come after that.Rollin' with a GeistkuchenComment
