Try out Linux Mint. I'm running the Isadora(v9) based KDE version on one laptop and just made a partition yesterday to try out the brand new Julia(v10) Gnome release in 64 on my desktop, probably will play around with trying that on thanksgiving weekend. probably hook the second older laptop up with XFCE and see how it takes, cause it wasn't hanging very well with just the stripped down Kubuntu (Lucid Lynx - 10.4.1)
Mint is where its at. - and if i can figure it out, You can.
It's MUCH more newbie-friendly than the straight up Gnome Ubuntu. - i couldn't get half that shit to work either, chalked it up to outdated laptop hardware primarily

^Yea. My XP install had bad OS rot, and I had a stick of ram die. This stupid thinkpad won't die. I'm going to forge ahead with ubuntu for now - but if I can't get wireless working I'll try mint.
But DAYUM! Does it run fast. It's AMAZING how much quicker a good OS is. And I've got an older version dreamweaver running perfectly under wine. That's kinda kick ass. I'm going to try photoshop and a few other - apparently they run just fine from what people say.Originally posted by Matt-BComment

I don't really use Firefox anymore, I find chrome is much faster. I don't know which add-on in Firefox is slowing it down so damn much, having tried disabling them all with no effect. I'm fucking sick of waiting for 2 minutes for it to start up everytime TBH.
