I love Volvos but have never owned one!
I almost bought a version of the last one but I just couldn't bring myself to buy a FWD car....

check out Turbobrix.com. Almost bought a Volvo 240 Turbo coupe. swedespeed.com, matthewsvolvosite.com, ipdusa.com for parts.
Don't know about chips, but doing plugs would probably make a big difference. Intervals are 30k and most people stop doing them when they have around 140k on the clock. Change the plugs (the Volvo ones are what most people recommend, I put a set of NGK Iridiums in one and they're working great), Seafoam it, flush the trans and put some good synthetic in it.sigpic

Ipd is your best bet for affordable X70 tuning.
My parents' 02' V70XC has the Ipd ecu upgrade, i think it's pushing 247 hp?
Do it right though, look to upgrade the turbo, intercooler, and the reverse ic piping kit is popular as well.
try volvospeed.com for your fwd volvo tuning needs, turbobricks (the other forum i used frequent a lot) is more of a rwd-based volvo site.

Volvo's are anything but gay! They can be fast as fuck! And if you get an early model it will be rwd.
This is my favorite!

Not sure if you got the standard GLT (my wifey has one), or the T5, but the T5's are pretty damn quick right out of the box, and can be made scary fast with standard turbo tuning. IPD is a pretty solid supplier of aftermarket goods, but if you really want to go big, check out what the guys over in scandanavia have done to theirs. There are more than a couple 850's and 960's that are pushing well over 500 HP at the front wheels (a few even in the 800-1000 range). Have had great experiences with all the Volvos that I and others in my family have owned....they are built like tanks, sometimes drive like them, but very rarely have the weird electronic gremlins that are a fact of life with older German car ownership. Have fun with it, should make a great DD, as long as you keep it full of oil (those motors tend to leak and burn oil at a pretty good rate).e92 M3

Volvo's are awesome. They were really all built for road racing that is why they are kinda slow off the line but are built for top speed.
A friend of mine has a V70 R and he is pushing I think 350bhp with only an upgraded chip.Comment
