    Trying to pick a camera

Since there are a lot of avid photographers on here, I figured this may be a good place to ask. I'm searching for a good camera for my sister for an xmas present. I'm trying to get her a "daily driver" camera which is to say something she can carry on her, not worry too much about if it gets lost or stolen, and that can withstand some bumps and bruises. She has no knowledge of photography, so an overabuncance of features isn't necessary. She'll never adjust anything, just point and shoot.

The following criteria are musts for me:

    -under $100
    -rechargable battery(no AA nonsense)
    -reliable, durable
-adequate features for point and shoot

Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks!

If you can stretch your budget I would recommend the Canon SD1300IS

I am sure you might be able to find it cheaper as cameras always go on sale for christmas.

        don't listen to ken rockwell.

go to amazon, type in "lumix" and find a camera in your price range with a rechargeable battery.

I barely ever take rockwell seriously. But from experiance his recomendations on the canon compacts have been good.

if you can spend the extra bucks any canon point and shoot will do the trick. I believe some can be had for about 120 or so. but it really is worth it.

i know he said that his sister doesn't know anything about cameras but a powershot from canon for $120 really is worth it. Much better than Nikon's point and shoots at the moment.

And no I'm not a canon fanboy, I own a Nikon DSLR but for a compact point and shoot I've always liked canon better. Their color and white balance is always spot on.

Exact same here. Nikon DSLR owner but I will never own anything but a Canon point and shoot.

Good advice here guys, thanks. My wife bought this hulking Konica Minolta five or six years ago and dropped it the other day and broke the battery door so it's fubar now. The Canon looks like just what I need.

Thanks guys for the insight. I ended up going with a Canon Powershot SD1300is per your recommendations. Spent a couple bucks more than planned, but got a killer deal and over the life of the camera I think the few extra bucks are worth it.

I got the camera in pink + 4gb card + 25 dollar amazon gift certificate for 110 shipped. I think I did pretty well.

                            Thanks again.

Saw that deal on passwird, good deal. Just not too big on Canon P&S cameras. Are you keeping the giftcard for yourself?
