    Professional cameras

My sister is torn over what camera to buy. She wants to get something that will last her and help her in school for photography. She is looking to spend around 500-1,200max(in reason). And has been looking at Nikon mostly.

I know you can spend a SHIT load on cameras, but she is only 16 and needs to buy a car also. So she has that much to spend. I know there is some rad guys on here with awesome skills with car shots. I am looking for your professional option to help her out.

I am sure she is looking for a SLR or a DSLR. So she is not limited to a point and shoot camera.

    ~Brandon

P.S. I did search before I posted found a guy looking to spend 100.

They should make a stove with a built in camera, or a dishwasher

I'd get a Nikon D90. Great sensor with shockingly good low light capability, and it's discounted pretty heavily now that it is aging. Amazon sells the body for $700ish, which leaves money for lenses.

Make sure she gets a 50/1.8 because they are cheap, incredibly sharp, great for portraits, and are fast enough to allow flash free shooting in low light.

If you don't have anything to offer Junkie, don't post. Go back to the NSW section. I am sick of kids trying to be cool.

I think this was one of the ones she was thinking over. She said it was around 700ish.

look at the 50 other threads about this.

a used D300 or D300s is more pro than a D90. or she could go all out and get a new D7000.

By that logic, you mean for people to post nonsense;)

The other day I had to drift around this camera to avoid a crash.

Pretty sweet broski, you're pretty cool. I wish I taught myself defensive drifting.

Thaks, I practice in parking lots. Drifting was the only way to avoid the crash.

Options I would consider with that amount of money. All prices are used.

                            D90 $550-600
                            D300 $850-900

Both of those bodies will have the same IQ, but the D300 handles better, has better AF, Micro adjustment, meters with Ai lenses, better weather sealing, etc. The D90 is smaller and lighter.

For lenses I would look at:

                            Nikon 35mm F1.8 DX $165
Small, lightweight, cheap, fast, good IQ

                            Tamron 17-50 f2.8 without the BIM $325

Fast for a zoom, half the weight of the Nikon equivalent and 1/3 of the price with similar IQ.

I would also consider the Nikon 50 AF-D f1.4 and f1.8 as well as the 85 AF-D f1.8. The 85 and 50 are a little long on a crop body if it is her only lens though.
