    Bass players and Guitar players...

Ive tooled around on guitars for years.
Just picked up a bass... because it was a deal.

Just want some opinions on how to teach myself?
How did you do it? How did you learn?

Anything I should buy to help?
    Any other pointers.

    Thanks

Think guitar, only just play the root notes.

As for slap/pop stuff, try watching videos of guys like Flea, Victor Wooten, Marcus Miller, and Les Claypool. That way you can get the idea of different styles of slap and pop, and how they're done.

"See, we're adding a little something to this month's sales contest. As you all know, first prize is a Cadillac Eldorado. Anyone wanna see second prize? Second prize is a set of steak knives. Third prize is you're fired."

just use the roots as said earlier, and then experiment... i think you'll learn how to make different sounds more from playing around than by simply watching someone do it, but it would be a good point of reference

i played guitar for 10 years, and my dad plays bass (professional musician). I tried to pick up his bass. It's not too tough to get used to the transition. I think I actually like bass more, and would like to learn slap techniques.

however, i severed the tendon in my left hand (neck hand) when I was a kid, and the frets are just far enough apart on a bass that it causes tremendous pain to try and play it. small difference in size, but its the difference between me being able to p[lay and not.

              Thats a bummer man.

Yah... I find bass can be more entertaining too.
Also gonna rebuild an old electric guitar of my dads this summer
and give it to him as a fathers day present. To bad he dont play.

Guess it will be for me. :D

if you wanna here a weird soundign entertainign bass line I'll send you an audio file :D. I've played drums for years and bass and guitar for the past couple. I learned by jsut looking up every song I ever liked and learned to play it.

Use your fingers to pluck, no pick. pick=no bass

                  learn zepplin bass lines

use your ring finger for triplets and don't rest your thumb anywahere on the guitar, let your forearm rest on the top of the guitar
