Danny, I'm not going to read 10 pages of retards suggesting cars or criticizing cars they've never sat in - but if you're financing a car without a warranty - as I imagine is the case with the e46 m3 - you're making a mistake. Why not just buy a cash car like an e39?

Thing only weighs what an e36 weighs and it comes with 3 pedals.

I just came from an 04 audi a4 1.8tQ6spd which I picked up with 30k miles. It was very comfortable, great interior, and with the mods it was pretty quick. In the year and a half i had it i spent around $3k on some mods/lots of maint.(thats doing all the work myself) I cant see anyone suggesting an audi as having owned one.
I dunno if you are anything like me but the main reason i sold it was because i missed rwd.
c5 z06 would be good fun, plenty reliable. fast stock and can get very fast relatively cheaply. same goes for the 1st gen cts-v.
I havent had much experience with e46 m3's but my friend has a 2001 with 130,000+ miles and he beats on it and hasn't had a problem yet
hope any of this helps

About 6 years ago I saw an ad for a 1984 Datsun with "no windshield and a homemade sunroof." A Datsun with the factory windshield delete and the home-style sunroof option will get you p****y like a bag of meowmix.Originally posted by RainierHookerThere's only two things I hate in this world. I didn't realize 996's were in that range. (edit) re: non-turbos. Oh. If I were considering a P car I'd look into an older P car and go nuts making it a widebody insane-eat-your-children car but then it's not going to be much fun in traffic and won't be comfortable (see Lotus remark.)
I don't know, an E46 M3 would probably fit the bill quite nicely and I think you're on you're way to deciding on it.
Every car has a compromise somewhere but as a DD if you've liked the way an E46 drives and serves you, go for it, it seems you're leaning towards it.
Get one sub 20k with enough papers/love, pay it off within a year or so if applicable and bam you're ahead of most people who buy their new overpriced cars that aren't worth much more by the time they roll off the lot and depreciate. Assuming it's taken care of you're likely to have a fun, capable, and great car for the money. I can't think of many 2 door sedans for the money that compete. I love M Coupes but for a DD it's better to have a backseat.
So Danny what's the update?
