i want a jeep wrangler or a daily...

So lately i've been thing about selling my mazda 6 and buying a jeep wrangler, as a new daily driver. i know where are a few people on here who have. just wondering if i could get some buyer tips on them. I want one because of the mn winters, the four wheel drive helps, and i'd like to give it a small lift, and do a little bit of off roading..

    thoughts on my plan?

    any general buyers tips?

    NO YOU DONT

they are cold in the winter, hot in the summer, and the uber short WB is a bastard in the slippery, the little fuckers will try to swap ends so quick you cant hardly get it back under you.

Besides I would rather be caught Pushing a Rover than driving a Jeep ;)

I'm not sure if the wranglers had selec-trac as an option (Full time 4WD). I wouldn't buy a Jeep without full-time just from experience.

Yeah, just in the winter I find command-trac a waste of my time. Constantly shifting in and out of 4WD is annoying, and I am screwed over 55mph where I can't switch in and out. I used to live in Minnesota, I would REALLY want a full time 4wd system.

you really should not have to switch it in and out that much, I normally only need 4x4 once or twice in the winter time. I have been a northern boy all my life and where I live now a light snow year is 150 inches. and I dont let the snow keep stuck at the house either

4x4 is a tool and aid, NOT A CRUTCH, if you cant make it though 5 inches of snow in 2wd you should not be out there in the 1st place

just to clarify i ment to write "wrangler for a daily"

but on the note of using it in MN. you say they're cold? even the hard tops? how cold is cold? i park in a heated garage, and am, in general exposed to the cold a lot, which i think gives me a some what greater cold tolerance (i do lots of snowboard racing)

well all of MN is cold but are you Duluth/International Falls cold???? ( Little woman was born and raised in Duluth I have some perspective on that)

Yeah the hard tops are much better but they are still a bit chilly as compared to a standard roofed vehical

Hills are the biggest issue. Flat ground is cake. Hitting glare ice when going up a huge mountain hill in 2wd mode isn't fun or safe.

I always thought it would be awesome to drive around a wrangler until my sister got one years ago. She had it lifted with stupidly large tires so maybe that had something to do with it but it was one of the most uncomfortable cars I've ever driven around. Really loud, drifted all over the road and kind of a turd going up hills. Even she hated it after a while and it was her dream car up to that point.

Exactly. I had a 2005 Sahara Rubicon with the longer cargo area/wheel base, I forget what its called... It was TERRIBLE for all the reasons listed above. I went a month and a half and traded it in, I couldnt handle another mile in it. I now DD a lifted 2002 4Runner and love it.

                          Love it.

How about just getting an AWD car like a Subaru?

"The Camry is an appliance, not a car. It attracts folks who have the same regard for driving that they have for washing dishes,
i.e. it's a necessary but somewhat unpleasant chore and they want something to make the task a little easier and insulate them from the process."
